Building quality homes for 35 years

18 Nov , 2022

Celebrating 35 years in business, Dominic Delaney (Building Contractor) Ltd is a leading name in house construction in Co. Kilkenny. We recently caught up with the affable managing director to find out more about his successful business.

Specialising in one-off new builds, extensions and renovations, and fully insured, the company prides itself on delivering high-quality, cost-effective projects on time and within budget. Since 1987, when Dominic set up the business in Kilmanagh, Co. Kilkenny, it has successfully completed a wide range of projects and continues to go from strength to strength. Dominic is ably assisted by his wife Marian, son Damien and a pool of high-calibre sub-contractors.

Outstanding workmanship, attention to detail and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of Dominic Delaney (Building Contractor) Ltd. Health & Safety is at the core of the business, and never more so than in this Covid-19 age. From concept to completion, Dominic and his team of top-class tradesmen are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs, and that there are no hidden or extra costs involved. All of their work complies with the highest industry regulations.

Whether your next project is a new build, extension or refurbishment Dominic’s one-stop-shop approach will ensure that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Kilkenny contractor’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals he receives from architects and satisfied customers.

“We’ve worked hard to establish a reputation that is second to none. One bad job could undo that, so we always strive for excellence and are willing to go the extra mile to ensure complete client satisfaction,” says Dominic, who is a carpenter by trade.

“We’re a small, family-business that operates within a 20-mile radius of Kilmanagh, which is located a few miles from Callan. Most of our work is sub-contracted out to the same tried and trusted tradesmen. Martin Bourke & Sons look after the block-laying, Martin Drohan does the plastering, Brian Dillon of Ardabawn Plumbing is our regular plumber, Tom Trait looks after the electrical and wiring, while Billy Young and Owen Delahunty do the carpentry for us. We carry out the groundworks ourselves and have an array of machinery, including a three-tonne digger, dumper and telehandlers, to cater for this type of work.”

Dominic continues: “We also enjoy an excellent working relationship with our suppliers, including Midland Hardware Builders’ Providers, Chadwicks, S&E Kennedy & Co, Munster Joinery, ProAir Heat Recovery Ventilations, Kilkenny Block, Doyle Concrete and William Murphy Soffit and Fascia. The architect we collaborate most with is Mark Kelly in Kilkenny.

“By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with the design teams and using only the very best building products, we’re able to deliver the highest quality construction to our clients.”

The new homes Dominic builds are typically between 2,000 sq. ft. and 3,000 sq. ft. in size. The Delaney team builds an average of eight-to-nine new homes every year ranging from traditional to contemporary.

“We take a personalised approach to every project and always demand the highest standards. All of our new homes are airtight and A-rated. Everyone wants a big house now. Every house we build is 2,000 sq. ft. and over,” he explains.

The cost of building materials has sky-rocketed and this is being acutely felt in the new build sector. However, Dominic believes costs may have plateaued.

“Material costs went haywire for a year or two due to the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, which has pushed up energy costs. But there are signs that things are finally starting to settle down a bit. Materials haven’t gotten any cheaper or any dearer in the last while which is a good sign. Having said that, there is still a lot of uncertainty out there and you can only price a job on the day you’re given a drawing.”

Passionate about construction, Dominic Delaney (Building Contractor) Ltd would like to take this opportunity to thank its customers, suppliers and design teams for their continued support as well as its sub-contractors for their hard work, dedication and skill. If you’re looking to build the home of your dreams in the Kilkenny area, then get in touch with Dominic for a free consultation. He would be delighted to hear from you.

Here’s to the next 35 years!
