Clancy Construction – built on partnership

16 Jan , 2021

Last year saw Clancy Construction completing its work on the state of the art Advanced Technology Building in Waterford. The Tipperary-based company’s work on the project earned it a pair of nominations at the 2020 Irish Construction Excellence Awards.

Established since 1947, Clancy Construction is a firm which uses its many years of experience to deliver a service that truly reflects their clients’ particular needs.

With its head office in Drangan, Thurles, Co Tipperary, the company has strategically opened offices in Dublin, Limerick and Cork and has developed into a strong and innovative organisation, with vast experience in all sectors of the construction industry throughout Ireland.

In 2013, Clancy appointed four members of its senior management team to the board of directors which has since brought added energy and expertise to the board.

An indigenous Irish company that enjoys three generations of continual development, Clancy continue to invest in new technology, ensuring that clients benefit from the efficiencies gained and that they have access to important innovations such as Building Information Modelling.

Building Ireland caught up with Contracts Manager Aidan Maher to learn more about the company’s excellent work on the IDA Advanced Technology Building in Waterford.

“We started work on the project in June 2018 and it took 12 months to complete,” explained Aidan, who has been working Clancy for an even decade now.

“We were delighted to be part of the project which was valued at €5.25million and were also proud to have completed it within budget and programme.”

The Advanced Technology Building (ATB) for IDA Ireland is a 3,000 m² LEED Silver accreditation building located at Waterford Business & Technology Park in Butlerstown.

It was designed to provide high quality accommodation to FDI clients and testimonials received from the client and design team speaks volumes on how Clancy and its site management team managed and completed the project.

The team exceeded expectations for both client and design team in their collaborative approach to managing the project.

The Irish Construction Excellence (ICE) Awards also recognised the calibre of the project after it was shortlisted it in two different categories.

Clancy still stand as finalists in the Industrial Project Under €10million and BIM Excellence categories after the awards ceremony was postponed in March as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.

“It’s fantastic to be finalists as a result of the work done on this project,” Aidan beamed.

“Brian Warren, Brian Cass and myself were part of the three-man team that went for the interview for it and we tried to put our best foot forward.
“It was a very successful project for all involved and just to be nominated at all is a great honour.”

Clancy itself has had its fair share of award successes as a company and its 73-year history has brought about a huge deal of experience. They use these years of experience to deliver a service that truly reflects the client’s particular needs.

Listening is a key part of the firm’s strategy to ensure that they fully understand the objectives of the project and concerns around particular aspects of it.

Once they fully grasp the project, they resource it with the most experienced Project Manager and team to ensure that it is executed with the minimum of fuss and in accordance with agreed timelines and budget.

Clancy are flexible which means that they have extensive experience in commercial, public sector and residential developments. They love to take projects all the way through from inception to build and beyond with their wholly owned Facility Management Company.

Clancy’s continual investment in technology ensures that you benefit from the efficiencies gained by the business and that you have access to important innovations such as Building Information Modeling.

Above all, safety is Clancy’s number one priority. Through their safety department they carry out both in house training and external training to ensure all their direct staff has the required training in keeping with their statutory obligations under health and safety legislation and indeed their own training needs to ensure they develop the skills sets of all staff both professional, trades people and general operatives.

They are fully aware that Safety is paramount to all work they engage in and are proud to be SafeT Certified.

It gives the client comfort to know that they operate a Grade A safety management system that only a few companies in Ireland comply with.

The Clancy safety record speaks for itself. They are SafeT certified with a Grade A for the eighth consecutive year, which only 10% of contractors in Ireland have obtained.

With a wealth of experience in the industry which dates all the way back to the late 1940s, working hand in hand with the client has always (and continues to be) a key part of Clancy’s strategy to ensure that they fully understand the objectives of the project and their concerns around particular aspects.

“Once we fully understand the project we resource it with the most appropriately experienced Project Manager and team to ensure that it is executed with the minimum of fuss and in accordance with agreed timelines and budget.”

With business presently booming, it’s safe to say that the company is set to continue to grow as it edges closer and closer towards 75 years in existence.
