Synonymous with the design, manufacture and installation of bespoke, premium quality systems, 2020 Glazing has since its inception in 2009 become a leader in the specialist glazing and façade market. Building Ireland popped into the industry-leading company’s state-of-the-art facility in Ballincollig, County Cork and sat down with the team to find out more.
2020 Glazing is a proven industry leader that provides a wide range of bespoke glazing solutions to the commercial and domestic markets. From specification to installation, the experienced, skilled 2020 team liaises directly with architects, engineers, contractors, home owners and end users, forever challenging and innovating, with one goal in mind: to deliver the right solution, every time.
Growing and evolving organically over the years to work alongside a who’s who of clients on a breath-taking portfolio of stunning projects large and small, 2020 Glazing has built a team to deliver on that aforementioned goal through the specialist expertise of dedicated in-house technical designers and engineers, experienced multi-person installation teams, and expert aftercare support.
In addition to a fast and efficient service, they also provide unbeatable technical advice and know-how, ensuring the consistent delivery of the most stringent design and performance criteria.
All fabrication takes place onsite at 2020 Glazing’s own 3,000m2 state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Ballincollig, County Cork, allowing them to control project timelines, delivery dates, and quality.
With solutions ranging from large glass, bespoke glazing and façade systems, to roof lights, curtain walls, frameless glass windows, and large sliding doors, they have the technical experience, the team and the facility to deliver every time.
For each project, 2020 Glazing take the time and diligence needed to assess what’s really needed, working closely with all stakeholders listening to their needs, introducing new ideas, sharing technical knowledge, guiding on specifications, and advising on the ideal solution. This results invariably in a high performance façade solution.
Last year was commercial manager James Ring’s tenth as part of the wonderful 2020 Glazing team and the amiable commercial manager is delighted by the traction the company has gained across both the commercial and domestic markets: “The company was set up in 2009 and has grown steadily to become a leader in the specialist glazing and facade market. From modest beginnings, they have established themselves as the partner of choice for bespoke and complex glazing solutions, from large commercial jobs to high-end one-off residential projects. We’ve had the distinction of working on some of the largest and most prestigious commercial and domestic glazing projects in Munster.”
“While we do have showrooms here in Ballincollig, we’d usually take prospective clients to a project we’ve already completed and show them what we’ve achieved previously. That sells the job for us and having that rich depth of portfolio gives us a very unique selling point. Of course, we also get a lot of repeat work from satisfied clients, which is our bread and butter.”
Everything is provided to cover a comprehensive range of building types (from one-off houses to apartment and office blocks, schools, pharmaceutical plants, student accommodation, data centres, schools, hotels, factories, commercial premises, etc.) through one point of contact at the state-of-the-art Cork facility, which boasts all the latest cutting-edge tools and machinery and is manned by a magnificent 30-strong, directly-employed team of experts, including in-house designers and contracts managers as well as fitter and factory operatives.
The optimal solution is delivered on every specific project, bearing in mind a myriad of considerations such as performance, aesthetics, location, and client preferences. “We can achieve that because we design and manufacture each project in-house. There could be up to 50 different components in anelement, sourced from multiple suppliers, but we achieve a bespoke system to suit each individual project, depending on factors such as how close the building is to the sea, how exposed it is to the elements, or it’s orientation,” says Financial Controller Karl Matson.
“Thus, you will have a different finish on a coastal building than on one that’s 50km inland. Each element will be designed differently and the profiles and glass thickness will be different,” adds QS Vincent Ahern. “No two projects are the same and being able to deliver that bespoke product rather than a one-size-fits-all solution is one of our greatest strengths.”
