Providing high-performance mechanical and electrical engineering solutions across all sectors of the construction industry, Parkbourne Consulting Engineers is fronted by father-and-son team Bryan and Ian McCormack, who have over 50 years’ combined experience working from feasibility stage through to handover and beyond on a comprehensive range of projects from single dwellings through to large mixed-use, multi-storey, high-rise developments.
A privately-owned, vastly-experienced, project-driven Irish engineering firm, Parkbourne Consulting Engineers is an industry-leading, hands-on consulting engineers practice dedicated to providing high quality, value driven design solutions within the built environment. With offices in Dalkey and Carlow town, Parkbourne work across an array of sectors and at all stages of a building’s life cycle – from inception through to commissioning and post occupancy.
Providing unrivalled expertise, Parkbourne boasts a proven track record offering mechanical design, electrical design and building services consultancy across the commercial office fit out, retail, pharmaceutical, hotel, student accommodation, sports & leisure, industrial, residential and healthcare sectors amongst others.
Established by Bryan and with Ian joining following cutting his teeth with one of the larger M&E Consultancies, both members of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, who bring 35 and 18 years’ experience respectively to each project, Parkbourne Consulting Engineers provide low and zero carbon design solutions, engaging with architects and clients early on in the scheme to achieve the best possible outcome for the life of their buildings.
The practice has accumulated exceptionally varied experience and provides professional, value-added service to a diverse range of clients in the public, private, industrial and commercial sectors nationwide, invariably meeting if not exceeding client expectation, which consistently generates repeat business and positive recommendations.
In healthcare, Parkbourne Consulting Engineers have provided expert M&E engineering solutions to numerous Centric Healthcare, Baxter Healthcare, Covid 19 Test Centres and Repromed clinics, while housing developments in Ballyquirke, County Galway, Hemingway in Clane, County Kildare, Kilheale Manor in Kill, County Kildare and Rathmill Manor in Rathcoole have also benefited from their expert touch, not to mention countless high-end private residential houses.
Some of the commercial projects successfully delivered include Conlans BMW / Jaguar Land Rover showrooms in Naas, Jones Engineering’s Leixlip warehouse, Nobber Fire Station in County Meath and numerous office fit outs including Spaces, Monster, Mars, Ancestary and Principle as well as a project for GPT in Galway.
“We provide M&E consultancy services to bring projects from the early stages of design through tender drawings to construction and sign-off. With our soft landings approach, we will often remain involved as consulting engineers on buildings long after the construction phase is complete,” Ian reveals.
“The main areas we work in are high-end residential, housing estates / apartments, commercial and healthcare, working predominantly for private clients, architects, the HSE and major fit out contractors, with the majority of our work being referrals and repeat business.”
Although their work is currently confined to Ireland, the directors of Parkbourne Consulting Engineers have a wealth of experience working internationally, having provided services across Europe and the United States. The keen personal interest Ian and Bryan take in every project is one of the many things that sets Parkbourne apart, as the former confirms: “We are a family-orientated practice and as such the work is very personal to us. We take a lot of care and this is much more than just a job to us. We bring a very personal element to it and this is something our clients seem to appreciate.”
The aforementioned soft landings approach adopted by Parkbourne Consulting Engineers is also hugely important. This strategy is designed to ensure that the transition from construction to occupation is turbulence-free and that operational performance is optimised. This covers every phase from inception and briefing through pre-handover, handover, initial aftercare and extended aftercare and post-occupancy evaluation.
“The soft landings approach ensures that clients get back-up support once the construction stage of the job is finished,” Ian notes. “We keep ourselves available for the life of the building. Once the project is finished, it’s not over for us. There can be a teething process with M&E systems and we come back and help out with that. We do that to make sure we are offering a proper service. This is our life, this is what we do – as a small to medium sized family business, we are fully focused along with all our in house engineers, on providing the most professional and comprehensive service possible.”
As a single disciplinary consulting engineers practice, Parkbourne are focussed on delivering building services solutions driven by value, comfort and long term sustainability, with core services and areas of expertise including mechanical engineering design, electrical engineering design, lighting design, public health design, condition surveys and site surveys, energy and communications infrastructure design, feasibility studies, planning support and post occupancy evaluation
Parkbourne Consulting Engineers utilise the latest industry standard software and technologies to calculate, verify, model and optimise their electrical and mechanical services designs. Through use of industry standard software including AutoCAD, Revit, Amtech, Relux, Dialux and MagiCAD, their engineers provide a comprehensive design solution for any practical application of electrical building services, while a combination of AutoCAD, Revit, Hevacomp, TAS and MagiCAD invariably produces mechanical service designs to the required level of detail.
As we move inexorably into 2024 Parkbourne Consulting Engineers have a busy order book in front of them, with a variety of work ongoing and / or booked in, including a number of high-end residential projects. “Every system we design is bespoke and specific to that particular project,” Ian concludes. “Sustainability is very high on our list of priorities and we use a lot of hybrid systems. In the large high end houses, for example, you won’t be able to heat the entire building with a heat pump.
“Each individual project is detailed out and there will be a lot of very detailed discussions with the client to tease out what exactly he or she wants from inception through to completion.”
For every step of the journey, Parkbourne Consulting Engineers provide invaluable expertise and that’s one of the reasons why this outstanding family business has earned a stellar reputation throughout the construction industry as an M&E consultancy partner of choice.”
