Leahy Construction making dreams a reality since 1986

15 Oct , 2025

John Leahy Construction Ltd, trading as Leahy Construction, is a long-established and progressive building and civil engineering contractor based in Templeglantine, Co. Limerick.

Approaching 40 years in business, Leahy Construction has extensive knowledge and expertise in the residential, healthcare, commercial and civil engineering sectors. The family-run business can complete projects ranging from small building works to large-scale commercial builds. It has earned an enviable reputation for quality construction at affordable prices across the Mid-West and beyond.

Primarily involved in the one-off residential build sector, Leahy Construction was founded in 1986 by John Leahy. When John retired in January 2024, his son Sean took up the baton and rebranded the company to reflect the changing of the guard. It has been a seamless transition for Sean who has been involved in the business full-time since 2004 and is a carpenter by trade.

“I’ve been around the business and building sites for as long as I can remember,” he says.

“I learned a lot from my father and hope to build on his legacy. We have a good name in the trade, great staff and have never been busier. Templeglantine is seven miles from Newcastle West and borders both Kerry and Cork, so we’re ideally placed to serve customers throughout Co. Limerick as well as in North Kerry and North Cork.”

If you’re looking to build your dream home in the countryside or thinking of renovating, Leahy Construction can make it a reality. Sean and his highly-skilled team provide a specialised service to clients who want to construct a new home or alter, increase or improve the space they live in. The family business has delivered hundreds of one-off builds in the Munster region over the past four decades and specialises in bringing unique character to your home.

“We pride ourselves in our beautiful, bespoke, well-designed and energy efficient homes. We carry out about 20 new one-off builds / large renovations a year. The houses we build typically range from 1,500 sq. ft. to 4,000 sq. ft. in size. We can provide a turnkey finish or a builders’ finish – whatever the client wants,” the affable Limerick man explains.

“Our reputation means everything to us. We provide a quality service which we have become known for over the past 40 years. We are fully committed to ensuring that the highest standards of workmanship are maintained on all projects, and to giving our clients the personal attention they deserve.”

Superior workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of Leahy Construction. Health & Safety is also paramount. From concept to completion, the Leahy team are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs, and that there are no hidden or extra costs involved.

Leahy Construction’s one-stop shop approach ensures that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The West Limerick contractor’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business, recommendations and referrals it receives from scores of satisfied clients.

By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with design teams and using only the very best building products, this fully insured contractor is able to deliver the highest quality construction to its clients.

“We employ eight people directly who are supported and supplemented by the same tried and tested subcontractors,” Sean continues.

“I would have no hesitation in saying that our people are our greatest asset. We have an amazing team of tradesmen which is a great thing to be able to say at a time when good men are hard to come by. We’re very lucky in that regard and to have lads with 20 years’ experience and more. That counts for a lot.

“Our main suppliers are General Hardware Supplies in Newcastle West, Tadhg O’Connor Hardware in Newcastle West and Lynch’s Quarry in Croom, while the architects / engineers we generally deal with are Mike Boyce Consulting Engineers, Pat Boyce Architect, Kevin Kennelly Architect and Maurice Meskell Consulting Engineers. We enjoy an excellent working relationship with all of them as well as our subcontractors.”

Leahy Construction also provides a range of services to the healthcare and residential sectors. These include building and maintenance services to Beechwood House Nursing Home in Newcastle West and Roche’s Feeds’ mill and manufacturing facility on the Dock Road in Limerick.

“We look after all of Beechwood House Nursing Home’s maintenance and building needs. They’ve added 60 new bedrooms over the last number of years and we’ve been at the forefront of that development. Roche’s Feeds have also been a valued client of ours since 2014. We not only meet, but exceed our customers’ expectations.”

As Leahy Construction prepares to turn 40, Sean would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients, suppliers and design teams for their continued support as well as his staff and subcontractors for their hard work, dedication and expertise. He is also grateful for the unwavering support of his wife Jane and children Sean Óg (12), Kara (three) and Ava (one), and his father John, whose advice and vast knowledge of the trade is invaluable.
