Shareridge is celebrating 20 years in business and what better way to mark the milestone than being shortlisted in two categories at the 2025 Irish Construction Industry (ICI) Awards.
A dynamic, innovative, industry-leading civil engineering specialist that is trusted to deliver essential services to keep Ireland running in a sustainable way into the future, Shareridge is delighted to be finalist for ‘Contractor of the Year’ and ‘Civil Construction Project of the Year’. Launched in 2014, the ICI Awards recognise, encourage and celebrate original and innovative contractors, businesses, teams, consultants and projects that demonstrate excellence in the built environment. This year’s awards ceremony takes place on Friday, October 10 at The Convention Centre, Dublin and Shareridge will be hoping to add to its long list of industry accolades on the night.
Being shortlisted for the prestigious ‘Contractor of the Year’ is an incredible honour and a proud moment for everyone at Shareridge. It is a powerful recognition of the hard work, dedication and high standards consistently demonstrated by the entire team. This nomination is a reflection of the quality of the company’s hard work, the strength of its partnerships with clients such as Uisce Éireann and local authorities, and its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and safety across all projects.
It also highlights the positive impact of Shareridge’s skilled, diverse and forward-thinking workforce, whose professionalism continues to drive its success. To be considered among the leading contractors in the country is not only a testament to how far the company has come since its inception in 2005, but also a motivator as it looks ahead to continued growth, excellence and delivering for communities nationwide.
Shareridge is also immensely proud to be nominated for ‘Civil Construction Project of the Year’, a recognition that highlights the tremendous success of the East Meath Water Supply Scheme –Windmill Hill Reservoir & Trunk Watermain to Ratoath project. This is one of the most important and rewarding projects the company has delivered to date. It was a truly outstanding project, both in its complexity and in its impact.
The East Meath Water Supply Scheme – Windmill Hill Reservoir and Trunk Main to Ratoath is a strategically vital drinking water infrastructure project commissioned by Uisce Éireann. Located in Curraha, Co. Meath, the project was delivered entirely by Shareridge as main contractor, PSCS and Assigned Certifier. The works involved the construction of a new 4,700m³ elevated reservoir on a greenfield site, the installation of secondary chlorination facilities, and the delivery of 6.9km of HDPE trunk main (2.8km of 450mm and 4.1km of 350mm ID) between Windmill Hill and Ratoath town.
Substantial upgrades were also made to the existing reservoir and telemetry systems. An aged 300mm asbestos cement main was safely decommissioned. The site was enhanced with solar panels and battery storage. This future-proofed infrastructure now secures a resilient, pressure-stable water supply for residents and businesses in Ratoath, Kilbride and Ashbourne, while enabling sustainable growth across the region.
Shareridge delivered the scheme to the highest standards of engineering, safety and sustainability. It featured one of Ireland’s first solar-integrated telemetry and battery systems on a water reservoir, seamless live cross-connection from AC to HDPE mains with zero service disruption and coordinated infrastructure design with adjacent solar farm to avoid duplicated roadworks.
Engineering excellence was evident in the integration of mechanical, electrical, automation and chlorination systems across legacy and new infrastructure, the safe installation and testing of 6.9km of trunk main through dense utility corridors, and the construction of an attenuation pond and wastewater holding system.
In addition, digital and operational enhancements included upgraded SCADA telemetry integrated with regional systems and automated controls across new and legacy assets. Value engineering was found in the reuse of a live AC main during staged commissioning to maintain service, co-located ducting to minimise road disruption and a Lean commissioning process which reduced energy and staff time. Shareridge coordinated complex works involving river crossings, utility diversions and live systems without any unplanned service interruption.
Over the past two decades, Shareridge has grown into one of Ireland’s leading civil engineering companies. What began as a small team with a big vision has evolved into a thriving organisation, driven by a talented and highly-skilled workforce. Headquartered in Castlebar, Co. Mayo and with regional offices in Limerick, Kilkenny and Tullamore, Shareridge’s success is built not only on its expertise, but also on a strong, positive company culture that fosters innovation, collaboration and excellence at every level.
