Providing a quality service is key to any business being a success; without it, achieving goals is almost an impossibility. That is why the majority of businesses in every sector focus on quality first and foremost.
This is particularly true in the construction industry where failure to deliver quality work can lead to a company’s lifespan being greatly reduced. There are many different sectors within the building trade, but all have their own quality assurance regulations in place including the electrical sector where safety is paramount given the dangers entailed with the work involved.
For this month’s edition of Building Ireland, we profile a Cork based company that delivers on quality on every project that they partake in.
Hepburn provide professional electrical solutions to homes and businesses in Cork, Dublin and the UK. As members of the Register of Electrical Contractors of Ireland (RECI) (Safe Electric), the company are certified to carry out work in their field of expertise.
You should always use a Safe Electric certified company to carry out electrical work in your home or business and ask for a Completion Certificate after the work is complete.
Owner Francis Hepburn established the business in 1998. Initially working as a subcontractor to large U.K and Irish electrical installation companies to follow out project management and control of contracts with day to day running of sites including total control over material , invoicing and labour. With contracts completed in Ireland, Scotland, England and Australia.
However, in 2007, Francis decided to focus solely on working in Ireland and in particular the Cork and Munster region.
“Once I decided to focus on the market here, we set about building a solid partnership with a varied sector in Cork from pharmacy fit out and maintenance to one off house installations. We are now focused on being Cork’s number one company as a trusted and competent electrical contractor,” said Francis.
“Our customer base covers a wide range of industries including large corporations, small businesses and home owners. We provide services in domestic, commercial and industrial installations, providing the full range of services including data cabling, emergency lighting, energy saving solutions, fire alarm installation, testing and commissioning.”
Francis explains “We provide the full range of services when it comes to electrical work, from Fire Alarm , Emergency Lighting , Data and Communication Systems. Also within the company is five electricians that are certified to the latest qualifications for test and inspection.
Many of our customers have been with us for years and we look forward to bring in many new customers in the years ahead.”
Aside from the electrical services provided, Hepburn Electrical also specialise in fit outs for shops, businesses and retail units. The team can provide a turnkey service in this regard.
“Sixty percent of our work would be electrical, while forty percent would be fit outs. We can provide a turnkey service and this means that the customer is dealing with just one person and not a load of different guys. It takes a lot of hassle out of the work for them. We have been fairly busy in this area over the last couple of years. Cork is going very well at the moment, obviously, it is not as busy as Dublin, but Cork is definitely heading in the right direction.
To carry out their work to the highest standard possible, the company have a dedicated, experienced, well qualified and competent staff many of whom have been with the company for years.
“Hepburn have a skilled and professional workforce and our focus is on maintaining high standards while combining quality with efficiency in every project we undertake. We would also bring in some sub-contractors when needed and these are guys that I have worked with for a few years now, a trusted team of people to turn too when times are extremely busy.
“Hepburn have many years experience on a wide range of electrical services, high standards of quality with a central emphasis on Health and Safety. This is what we offer our clients. As a company we strive to deliver an excellent service on time, within budget and completed to the highest standard.
“The company focuses on quality assurance, which takes a big effort from everyone involved. Our aim is to operate a Quality Assurance Management System which fully meets those requirements. We aim to deliver high quality Electrical Installation Works.
Francis is pleased with the direction the business has been heading as their workload increases so to does their reputation for providing a quality and efficient service.
“Business is growing from strength to strength and our aim is to continue our high level of service. Our reputation of a top quality service and skilled craftsmen is key to the success of our business and we aim to enhance that further to maintain this. We are positive about the future and look forward to the challenges that lay ahead as we continue to offer our high level services to our ever increasing customer base.”
A large fit out project is under way at the moment for an international client Clearstream in Little Island , Co.Cork, where Hepburn are main contractors for a multiple of service contractors.
With electrical contracts such as Cork County Housing, HSE contracts, Costa Coffee outlets around the country aligned with the recently finished Gaelcholaiste Mhuire Extension at North Monastery Road,Cork ,Scoil Phadraig Naofa , Bandon and Douglas Nursing Home contracts that they are currently working on is keeping Hepburn busy and Francis is pleased to have a reliable foreman to aid him.
“Paul Murphy has been my foreman for a number of years and without him, I wouldn’t get through half the work that I do.
Along with Jean my wife who looks after the office side of the buisness, I have the back up when required to carry out all Hepburn commitments for the future, Francis says,
“Hopefully, we can push the office fit out side of the business and this is an area that we are keen to focus on. Cork’s office space is changing by the day.”
