Glenbeigh Construction – the professionals

14 Feb , 2018

Founded in 1985 by Philip Earle and Frank Doolan, Glenbeigh Construction has undoubtedly grown into one of Ireland’s leading construction companies delivering high quality projects to both the public and private sectors.

For this month’s edition of Building Ireland, we profile this ever growing firm and speak to general manager John Donlon about what sets them apart from their competitors.

Over the years, Glenbeigh has been involved in many prestigious contracts that have enhanced their reputation for delivering a professional service that surpasses their clients demands.

As a large privately owned contractor, the highly skilled team has worked together to ensure that every aspect of a project is given the necessary attention in order for the work to be completed to an unrivalled standard.

The company’s ethos is their ability to tailor their services to the changing needs of their clients and this is what makes them what they are today. They will build upon their existing reputation for their tailored service, while continually strengthening their competitive advantage by growing and adapting to the ever-changing market conditions.

“We set ourselves very high standards and our clients expect those standards to be met on every project, which we are delighted to say we do,” stated John.

“Our client base includes government, local authority, HSE, OPW and private clients, while the broad spectrum of project types range from residential, commercial, industrial, retail, refurbishments, fit-outs and restoration/conservation of heritage buildings.

“As a main contractor, we have positioned ourselves strongly in the Irish market due to the unparalleled integrated services we can offer, including, project management with in-house design and response care teams.”

Glenbeigh’s commitment to delivering value, service and innovative solutions to each of their clients’ needs has seen their reputation in the market place rise considerably over the years.

Throughout this time, Glenbeigh’s professionalism, reliability, responsiveness and total commitment to their customer’s service while handling complex construction projects and delivering within budget and on time has been met with a renowned thumbs up from all of their clients.

Glenbeigh have many projects ongoing at the moment including Clancy Quay in Islandland Bridge, Dublin, for Kennedy Wilson, which was the largest residential conservation project at the time. This two-year development that has seen 163 units delivered within a 22-month timeframe. Glenbeigh are developing an additional building in the same scheme.

In healthcare, projects include the Mullingar Primary Healthcare Facility, Meath Street Primary Care  Centre and Cyberknife at Hermitage Clinic. In Retail and Hospitality, Glenbeigh completed the 7-Star Etihad Lounge at Terminal II Dublin Airport, while fitouts include Arrivals Hall Refurbishment and Fit-Out at Terminal 1 Dublin Airport. Trinity Street Dublin 2 was a 5 Storey Fit-Out & Rooftop Penthouse Extension with Aer Lingus open plan offices being another fit-out job.

The company’s success has been recognised by numerous awards that they have won with some of the recent ones for projects including Laura Lynn – 1st Children’s Hospice in Ireland, Farnogue Healthcare centre in Wexford Town, Spirituality Centre Glasnevin – Modern Design blended to Historic Building

Construction and Airfield – 33 Acre Development Comprising Restaurant Museum and Amenities.

Accreditation is an area that Glenbeigh have worked hard on to and they have  have been accredited with ISO 9001 and 14001 as well as OHSAS 18001. They have implemented an Environmental Management System in accordance with the requirements of ISO 14001:2004 as part of their Integrated Management System.

The company’s vision is to redefine what their client should expect. “There are up to 70 people employed direct, all of who are highly skilled and well trained at what they do. A lot of the employees would have many years service with us and there is one general operative here who has been with the company since it was first established.

“We would use recognised sub-contractors who are now part of the team and know the way we work and all this together helps us exceed the clients’ expectations.

“Glenbeigh Construction is a client driven company. Since the recession, we have grown year on year. It was a difficult decade before that, but we are happy with the direction of the company.

“Continued growth in a measured manner is the way forward. I don’t think anyone wants to see a return to the way it was, but a sustained industry where everyone grows.”

John points to one area of concern within the industry and that is the lack of skilled workers available since the recession gripped the nation back in the late noughties.

“There is a shortage of skilled workers in the industry. Most left the country when the recession came and they haven’t returned. The rates haven’t improved much and until that starts to happen, it is unlikely they will return. It is an issue that needs to be addressed and handled carefully.”

As a main contractor it is essential to Glenbeigh that their clients are satisfied with the final product. Glenbeigh works with their public and private sector clients, and is vastly experienced on commercial, refurbishment. Glenbeigh Construction has strategically developed their professional services to benefit their key clients and going forward that looks certain to maintain their reputation as being one of the leading building contractors in Ireland.
