DHD Construction Ltd is a leading construction and maintenance company based on the outskirts of Wexford Town. Established in 2005 by Mick Doran and operating within the healthcare, hospitality, heritage, educational and housing sectors, it provides an unrivalled service to its clients in terms of quality, safety, continuous professional development and technical ability.
The company’s fresh approach is designed to work side by side with its clients and design teams, with the aim of producing quality work on time and within budget. With highly-skilled staff and technical experts at its disposal, DHD Construction Ltd is the ideal choice for your construction needs. Its 25-strong team boasts many years of experience in the construction industry in residential, commercial, retail and industrial developments.
As a member of the Construction Industry Federation (CIF), the family-run business (Mick Doran’s brothers Sam and Bernard are also involved at site management level) can fulfil all your construction requirements, whether they involve restoration work or new build projects. DHD Construction Ltd strives to ensure that clients receive the highest possible level of service and professionalism. Attention to detail and close monitoring of all quality requirements ensure clients’ expectations are not only met, but exceeded. The company’s systems ensure that contracts are completed efficiently and safely, and in accordance with the project requirements.
DHD Construction Ltd can enter the construction process at any stage, and can provide a design service culminating in a turnkey design and build solution. Clients can rest assured that the initial quotation will represent the final project cost. The company can enter into contract or a broad base of arrangements, including traditional, cost plus percentage, fixed fee or indeed on a management basis.
While DHD Construction Ltd provides a nationwide service, most of its work is undertaken in the greater Dublin and Leinster areas. Its staff will take ownership of all projects and are professional, committed and enthusiastic.
Additionally, the Co. Wexford-based firm offers a maintenance / facilities management service for existing and new buildings on a contract or “as and when required” basis.
Its service offers peace of mind to building owners and occupiers. Investing in maintenance on an ongoing basis can prevent substantial building fabric problems from developing in the long-term and is proven to be a more cost-effective solution. The contractor’s aim is to ensure that its activities promote the safety, health and welfare of the all persons affected by such activities, whether they be employees, sub-contractors or members of the public.
All projects are completed to the highest standard, in accordance with the drawings, details and specifications and comply with best practice and building regulations as well as planning and other local and national government requirements.
DHD Construction Ltd has a clear “organisation structure” with division of responsibilities in order to serve the various areas of operation. Its managers, engineers and technicians are drawn from the premier engineering and technical institutes, and have expertise in all areas of construction, renovation and fit-outs. An ongoing training programme keeps its employees up-to-date of the innovations in the industry and strengthens their commitment to excellence.
“We undertake residential, commercial and retail developments, while healthcare projects have become something of a niche for us. We have completed a wide range of projects over the past 13 years and continue to go from strength to strength,” explains Contracts Manager James Fanning.
One of DHD Construction Ltd’s biggest clients is TLC Nursing Homes which operates luxury nursing homes across the wider Dublin area. DHD is currently constructing a 149-bedroom nursing home for TLC in Coolock, Dublin 5, having previously completed similar projects for the same client in Maynooth and Santry (Cara Care Centre). The current contract, which commenced in July 2017 and is due for completion in December 2018, is valued at €16 million and is a design and build turnkey project.
As well as having 149 bedrooms, the new nursing home – which is being developed on the site of the old Smurfit Kappa facility – will boast training / R&D / education liaison facilities, plus administration and staff facilities. DHD has also started work on a €6 million 47 social housing unit for Fold Housing on the same site, which will be completed in November 2018.
“We have forged a strong relationship with the TLC Group and its owner Michael Fetherston. We provide a design and build system that is specific to TLC’s needs. We have it down to a fine art. We know exactly what TLC require and the trust is very strong between the two of us,” James adds.
DHD Construction Ltd has also completed Primary Care Centres for the HSE in Summerhill and Ashbourne (both Co. Meath) and has recently handed over No. 10 Mill Street & Mission Hall to the Creedon Group, who are leasing it Teeling Distillery. This very challenging project involved the restoration of one of the most significant 18th century structures situated within Dublin’s Liberties area. The restoration of No. 10 Mill Street recently featured as building of the month on the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage (NIAH) website.
DHD Construction is currently refurbishing Georgian Office buildings at 14 Merrion Square North and 35 Fitzwilliam Place at a cost of €1 million and €500,000 respectively. Additionally, the contractor is working on residential developments in Arbour Hill (20 units), Templeogue (20 units) and Dollymount Avenue (13 units) at the present time.
