Peak Construction Limited is a general building contractor and since its inception they have become widely recognised and highly regarded as a hardworking, diligent and efficient construction company.
With a head office located in Dublin City Centre, they have successfully completed a number of high profile contracts throughout Dublin and the surrounding counties in recent years.
Their valued client list includes The Department of Education and Skills, Laois Education and Training Board, Kildare County Council, various Religious Orders as well as numerous private clients both domestic and commercial.
The company has grown and developed in recent years and they have established a reputation for producing work of the highest quality and delivering projects built to the very highest standards and specifications.
In tandem, they have established and maintained extremely good relationships with architects and other design team members on all projects they have been engaged on and they firmly believe that their professionalism, determination, flexibility and above all their great attitude towards their work is the reason for this.
Peak Construction Limited’s success can be attributed to effective hands on management and the employment of a highly skilled workforce who take great pride in their day to day work.
Combined the management team of Michael Treacey (Director), Pat Moore (Contracts Manager) and Iomair Treacy (Estimator) boast a wealth of experience and knowledge in the construction sector.
That is one of the reasons why they are successful when it comes to tendering for jobs such as the new €1.8m extension to Scoil Mhuire Junior and Senior National Schools in Newbridge, Co Kildare.
The project involves the construction of a new building which will include a Special Education Needs Unit (SEN unit) containing two SEN classrooms, two Safe Base rooms, a Multi Sensory room, a Central Activity room, toilets and shower rooms, linen/sluice room, Para Educational room, storerooms, an office and ancillary accommodation.
The new building will also include two mainstream classrooms, a play room, four special education tuition rooms, two offices and boiler house and toilets.
“We started on site last July and it’s a 12 month programme,” explained Iomair Treacy. “We expect that it will be completed by the middle to end of July this year to give a little time before it opens for pupils in September. It is one of the largest contracts that we have worked on to date as a company.”
The Department of Education and Skills obviously appreciate Peak Construction’s quality of work and that is something that the progressive company prides itself on.
“When the company started out, we were picking at scraps like everyone else from 2007 to ’09,” Iomair recalled. “Initially we were successful in getting work got through recommendations, jobs like small house extensions and refurbishments. We were also doing a lot of insurance work for insurance companies and that helped to get us off the ground but on a small scale.
“Around 2013, everyone in the industry started to see things turn around and the first substantial project we secured was the fit-out work on the Portarlington Medi Centre. In 2014, we secured a Classroom Extension Project on Allenwood Girls school in Kildare as well as the fit-out and refurbishment of the Town Hall in Newbridge for Kildare County Council which was a very prestigious job for us.
“Other work we have completed on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills were Killenard NS in Laois and the ASD extension to Portlaoise Educate Together national school.
“Over the years, we’ve developed a good handle on the costs associated with this type of work so for that reason we started to target work in the educational sector. In addition, we do carry out private domestic work in Dublin, Kildare and Laois. Most of our staff are from the Kildare and Laois area so it is beneficial for us to have our crews working in these areas.”
Peak Construction’s 16-strong staff members are their biggest asset and they endeavour to train all their technical and administrative staff to the highest possible level. By doing so this enables them to offer their clients the best service they possibly can. They encourage all of staff to up skill where relevant and facilitate them in whatever way they can.
All site staff carry valid Safe Pass cards and all machine operatives and other technical staff carry Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) cards. Health and Safety is at the forefront of what they do and they have their own in-house Safety Officer who administers ‘Tool Box Talks’ as well as having an external H&S Consultant to carry out regular audits on their daily site activities.
They are proud to say that they have never had any reportable accidents or injuries and all their works are carried out in full compliance with current Health and Safety Authority guidelines.
“We employ a lot of skilled trades people for the General Building works; groundworks, carpentry, concrete works etc and we would sub out the specialist trades such as Mechanical & Electrical installations and windows and the like,” Iomair added. “As a result, they have a good handle on the output and quality of work that is expected. We take great pride in the quality of our work and our aim is to have every job completed on time and within budget.”
Peak Construction has increased its turnover from €700,000 to approximately €3m in the space of the last five years. Iomair puts that down to the hard work of the management team and staff and of course the satisfactory completion of some great projects for good clients along the way.
“Looking ahead to the future, I think we will probably try to keep it at the current level in terms of output and staffing numbers because for us it is very manageable at present. We will continue to seek new opportunities in all sectors of the industry and grow the company organically at a steady rate.
“We have grown the operation quite substantially over the last few years but we are cognisant that we don’t want to grow too big too quickly and lose sight of what we are all about which is the provision of a quality service to all our clients large or small,” he concluded.
