Approaching two decades in business

23 Feb , 2019

MG Plant & Machinery Sales Ltd specialises in the sale and export of quality used construction equipment from most of the recognised brands in the market place. Building Ireland heard more from Martin Gleeson.

Business is improving at the present time for MG Plant & Machinery Sales Ltd down in Swinford, Co Mayo and the plan is to keep the trend going, according to Martin Gleeson.

Headed up by Martin and his brother Michael, the family-run business has always maintained its strong links with the local community, having originally started out as an agricultural machinery stockist four decades ago.

Today, the company specialises in the sale and export of all construction equipment from most of the recognised brands in the market place, such as Hitachi, CAT, JCB, Kobelco, Benford, Komatsu and Eurocomach to name but a few.

MG Plant & Machinery Sales Ltd carry an extensive stock of Excavators, Dozers, Dumpers and Rubber Tyred Machines, Teleporters and also peripheral equipment like Rock Breakers and Buckets to suit all types of machines. They also have a fully equipped heavy machinery workshop with fully trained mechanical staff that carry out all machine servicing and repairs.

Most of the company’s machinery has been sold to clients within the construction industry.

Martin took some time to explain to Building Ireland what they’re all about.

“The company’s established 18 years and we’ve 17 staff working here between full-time and part-time,” he outlined.

“There are three parts to the company – plant sales, plant exports and MG Plant Spares, which specialises in the sale of spare parts for all construction equipment and can be delivered nationwide.

“We’ve also been Eurocomach agents since 2015. They’re an Italian company specialise in the construction and design of mini excavators from one-tonne to nine-tonne.”

The company has and continues to supply farmers from all over Ireland with good quality used 6-12 tonne excavators.

After all, the family are from a farming background, as Martin explained:

“Our father used to sell tractors here around 1975, so I’d say we’re roughly at this site since then. The history is definitely there for this company and we’ve earned a good reputation down through the years.”

MG Plant & Machinery Sales source their plant and machinery from all over Ireland, the UK and Europe, and are able to offer customers a cheaper alternative to buying new.

The company always has a good selection of used machinery from one year old to four year old at competitive prices.

One of the reasons why MG Plant & Machinery Sales has become Ireland’s leading supplier of used plant and machinery is down to the fact that it stands over everything it sells. They totally refurbish all their machines to a high standard. Every machine sold is backed up with a warranty and that continues to attract new customers year in, year out.

All products for sale are available to view on the company’s website, www.mgplant.com, which has been another outlet that has boosted sales in recent years.

“Business has improved with the re-establishment of the construction market in Ireland” he enthused.

“We’ve seen a big increase in the sales of machines to what it was and hopefully things will continue to improve into the future.”

MG Plant & Machinery Sales carries out its work from a five-acre site in Swinford, which located just 10 minutes from Knock Airport.

The company’s premises opening hours are from 8.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday and from 9am to 4pm on Saturdays.
