“We have greatly increased on our online presence in recent years and take pride in our ability to look after the needs of our customers. We have a growing client-base, especially in the agricultural sector thanks to our new range of BEKEN LED lighting products which we designed and developed in conjunction with local pig farmers,” Monaghan Electrical Wholesale sales manager Brendan Treanor explains.
BEKEN LED is a range of superior agricultural LED lights specifically designed for use in mushroom, poultry and pig houses. There are a number of reasons why BEKEN LED lights are the best agricultural lighting solution on the market today.
Thanks to BEKEN’s HT19 quick connect wiring system, BEKEN lights are nine-times quicker to install than conventional wiring systems. Its ‘plug and play’ method of wiring allows mushroom, poultry and pig houses to be fitted safely in a matter of hours. The quick connect system is available on both lamps and tubes. This contributes to a massive saving in labour costs.
Conventionally, most agricultural houses used either 100W incandescent or 58W fluorescent fittings to provide sufficient lighting. BEKEN lights are very efficient to run. Their LED lamps use 10W of power and their LED tubes just 30W.
An average poultry or pig house with 40 lights will save €1,224 per year using energy efficient BEKEN LED lights. A complete installation of BEKEN lights will pay for itself within two years. Over the lifetime of BEKEN lights, an average agricultural house will save over €20,000 in energy costs.
With an IP67 rating, BEKEN LED lights are completely waterproof. The lights have been comprehensively tested in the harshest conditions to confirm their quality and dependability. This includes inside mushroom houses where temperatures during ‘cookout’ can reach 80 degrees Celsius and humidity between 85-100%.
Another reason why farmers are choosing BEKEN LED is because the white opal diffuser on each light is completely shatterproof. Made from a flexible polycarbonate, the lights can withstand substantial impacts. BEKEN LED lights have an IK10 rating – a measurement of impact resistance and durability. This is far superior to almost all other fittings on the market. No glass means that BEKEN LED lights are also food safe.
With chickens’ eyes being more sensitive to light flickering than human eyes, BEKEN LED lights contain a flicker free LED driver that eliminates light flicker and encourages birds to behave more calmly and increase productivity. Most conventional fluorescent tubes have an estimated lifetime of 10,000 hours. BEKEN LED lights, however, have a guaranteed lifetime of 50,000 hours and come with a reassuring warranty of five years on most products.
A case study of one farmer in Monaghan showed that he saved €8,495 and completed his new 80-metre poultry house lighting installation nine times quicker by choosing BEKEN agricultural lights. He installed four lines of lamps using BEKEN’s Ht19 quick connect system. Lamps, totalling 98, were spaced at three metres apart. Two electricians completed the installation in just five hours – one tied and connected the lamps while the other operated a teleporter with a work platform attached. With conventional wiring, the installation would have taken six days to complete.
“Monaghan Mushrooms are among those who are using our BEKEN LED lights in their mushroom houses. We also recently installed a solar PV panel for Peadar McGee Mushrooms in Emyvale, which was one of our largest installations,” Brendan adds.
