For any business to succeed, investment is key and Sean Kinsella Site Developments Ltd is one business that certainly is willing to move with the times.
Following the opening of a new C&D waste recycling facility at Bantown, Gorey, the family run business have continued to invest in the business with the acquisition of a new weighbridge, upgrading their machinery and plant as well as installing a roof over the bays.
All this allows the team at Sean Kinsella Site Developments Ltd to continue providing a top quality service to a satisfied customer base.
With well over 40 years’ experience behind them, the list of services has grown considerably and now includes excavations, foundations, drainage, utility installations, concrete finishings, kerbing, site clearance, footpaths, vehicle access, paving, landscaping, sewer connection and earth removal.
Sean Kinsella is still heavily involved in the business while his son John runs the operation on a daily basis.
Their client base ranges from private homeowners to schools, commercial outlets, housing developments and local authorities.
They also specialise in the installation, repairs and upgrades of the entire sewage system including tanks and percolation. Meanwhile, the genesis of their construction and demolition waste recycling facility means they now provide clients with an even wider range of services than hitherto.
Combining the site clearance and recycling facets of the business, Sean Kinsella Site Developments Ltd. now possess the machinery, personnel and expertise to demolish buildings, clear sites and remove all the debris to be recycled.
One trait that the family run business have always followed is that they do everything by the book, which may mean a lot more paperwork, but John stressed to us that they have always focused on doing things right.
“We are fully licensed, have the proper permits and insurance. One thing we don’t do is cut corners. Yes, it means an awful lot more paperwork, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. There are a lot of rogue operators out there and the industry probably needs to be monitored closer, but we are audited on a regular basis and keep everything in order,” said John.
“The days of just dumping waste material in a farmer’s field are long gone. We run the waste through a screener and segregate all the timber, plastic and metal for recycling.”
The continued investment we mentioned earlier has allowed the team provide a more efficient and loyal service to their many customers.
“We have always invested in the business and that is something we are continuing to do. In recent times, we have upgraded the plant and brought in a new crusher and screener as well as a loading shovel.”
A new service that the company is providing has seen them invest in a grab lorry which allows them move site waste directly from a job to their recycling facility.
“The grab lorry is very busy as there are very few grab lorries in Wexford. It cuts out the middle man when removing construction waste as we can just go in, lift the waste and bring it back here for disposal.”
The C&D waste facility accepts soil and subsoil, timber and metal, concrete, asphalt and tarmac. As with the groundworks business, attention to the smallest detail ensures that customers are afforded a first-class service with a personal touch.
John admitted that they are always looking at ways of improving their service and attracting more customers through their doors.
“We’re always diversifying and looking for something new to do.”
Away from the recycling work, plant hire also plays a big part in the business and John revealed that they are kept going in this area too.
“The plant hire work is kept going, we have enough to keep us going, but we’d always like to take more work on board.”
John feels that by doing everything by the book makes it difficult to sometimes compete with other firms that may be cutting corners, but that does not mean they are going to change their philosophy.
“There’s a lot of competition and it’s very unpredictable, but we provide an excellent service and look after our customers. We’ve been at this for a long time and people know they can depend on us.”
Maintaining the machinery is something that Sean, John and the staff place a great emphasis on and they have their own mechanic that ensures all the plant and machinery are kept in excellent condition.
“We do our best to avoid any unnecessary downtime and there is an emphasis placed on maintenance. We upgrade when we can, but keeping the machinery and plant in good working order is a priority.”
