Balrath Engineering Consultants have the ability to assist new building services design, retrofitting and building energy analysis which has seen their client base expand quite substantially since their inception.
Having spent a number of years working in Canada and the Middle East, Adam Rogers made the decision to return home and establish his own business. The experience of working on some of the largest projects in the world including the 18 Billion Dollar Doha International Airport in Qatar where there were 40,000 construction workers on site has helped hugely.
“It was always in the back of my mind to start my own business. I was working as a consultant in Dublin before I went abroad and with the experience I picked up there, I used that and the contacts I had here to start my own business,” said Adam.
With offices in Dublin and Navan, the company has certainly extended their services on a nationwide basis.
“Our residential client base would consist mainly of property developers including Eastwise Homes, Modern Homes Ireland (MHI), Sherwood Homes, KJA Developments, Lagdun Developments and many more. Our workload would be roughly split 50/50 between residential and industrial/commercial.
“We are quite busy at the moment. Some of the commercial projects that we have recently finished or will be completed shortly include HuckleTree on Pearse Street and Whelans on Wexford Street Dublin. We have also carried out work for Tayto Park and are currently working on the design for the new Tayto Park Themed Hotel to be built on site at Tayto Park Co. Meath”
Adam has assembled an experienced team made up of senior consultants who have experience working with international consulting firms throughout Europe & North America.
“Our staff bring extensive knowledge to each project they work on and use this knowledge and experience to design each project without the requirement for unnecessary design margins, this approach makes building services installations less costly to build, cheaper to operate and easy to maintain.”
Through his own experience of working abroad, he revealed that many of the new technological procedures being brought into Ireland in the last few years have been used in other countries for a number of years now.
“The likes of BIM is still relatively new in Ireland, but it has been used abroad for a number of years. Having worked in Canada and the Middle East certainly was a huge help when setting up back home. The technology within the construction industries in those countries are still a good bit ahead of Ireland, mainly due to the recession here in Ireland when new project design came to a standstill, other countries were pushing ahead with the new design technology on the market which left us behind in certain areas, for a time at least.”
The company are there to help in any way they can right from the planning stage of a project until competition.
“We are experienced at dealing with architects, engineers and designers to provide input pertaining to mechanical, electrical and plumbing services design during the planning process. We always provide schematic details of our services right at the start of the development process.”
Balrath Engineering Consultants can provide a condition and energy survey on projects which is an assessment of physical mechanical, plumbing and electrical equipment conditions within a building or complex. The survey will identify energy deficiencies and maintenance issues including, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, site utilities, storm water management and life safety systems.
Adam admits that Brexit is currently a cause for concern in the market, mainly due to the uncertainty of how it will be facilitated.
“At the moment the market seems to be swinging in favour of build to rent and I do feel that has been determined by uncertainty that currently exists” “Other factors include the difficulty first time buyers have when accessing mortgage lending services which is pushing a lot of people into long term rentals or social housing”
With his experience from abroad, Adam is looking into the possibility of opening offices in the Middle East and North America.
“That is something that we are actively looking at, There is a big opportunity in Canada, where the economy is generally more stable than it is at home in Ireland, we are looking to diversify internationally which we feel can facilitate continued growth for our company.” “Although Ireland will always be our home, we see the advantage in keeping our options open”
