B McCormack Construction Ltd has earned an enviable reputation for building beautiful bespoke one-off homes in the West of Ireland. Managing director Barry McCormack explains more about his burgeoning company which also specialises in extensions, renovations and maintenance.
Looking to build your dream home in the countryside or thinking of extending or renovating? If so, B McCormack Construction can make your dream become a reality.
Based in Monivea, Co. Galway, this exceptional contractor provides a specialised service to clients who want to construct a new home or alter, increase or improve the space they live in. When you build your new home with B McCormack Construction, you can rest assured it will provide advice and expertise at every stage of the build from the design and planning stages to construction through to all the fitting out and finishing. The company has completed many new one-off builds across the West and specialises in bringing unique character to your home.
“Bespoke, one-off, high-end and low energy homes has become our speciality,” says Barry, who has 18 years’ experience in the construction industry and is joined in the business by his wife Sandra.
“We all have a desire to live in a home that is not only comfortable, but also well-designed. Working closely with some of the best architects in the business, we can deliver that dream home for you.
“Our reputation means everything to us. We believe we offer a service that is second to none and pride ourselves on our attention to detail, quality workmanship and value-for-money service. We strive to deliver on time, within budget and exceed our customers’ expectations. Our workbook speaks for itself. Your experience with us will be unlike any other building project you have been associated with.”
While Barry’s services are highly sought-after these days, it wasn’t always the case. Setting up a construction firm in the middle of a recession was daunting to say the least.
“After graduating from DIT with a degree in Quantity Surveying, I got a job as a contracts manager with Cunnane & Donaghey in Mullingar. I worked with them for almost 10 years before deciding to go out on my own. It was a really tough time to be starting out and I got a lot of knocks. But I stuck at it and things eventually started to pick up. It was a steep learning curve which has stood me in good stead.”
The 38-year-old, who comes from a long family tradition of carpenters, stone masons and builders, takes a hands-on approach to every job he undertakes.
“I’m always on-site to oversee the project. I find that it gives the client peace of mind that things are being done right. I love a challenge – the more challenging a project is, the better. I also keep myself up-to-speed with new technologies and techniques, and have recently completed a series of courses on energy efficiency within the construction industry and best practice in energy upgrading of houses and apartments.”
With health & safety being paramount, B McCormack Construction has developed a culture that promotes an injury-free environment and provides the safest workplace possible for employees, sub-contractors, clients and others who enter or are near its construction sites. The company’s policy is to comply with all current health & safety legislation and to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the safety, health and welfare of all employees whilst at work and to provide such information, training and supervision for this purpose.
Through innovative training and education programmes, the contractor also provides its employees and sub-contractors with the tools, knowledge and resources they need to increase safety, reduce risk and improve loss control on every project it manages.
All sites are regularly audited by B McCormack Construction’s health & safety team to ensure compliance with the required systems and procedures; audit results are reviewed and immediate corrective action taken if and when required. Regular reviews are then undertaken at senior management level of audit results, and performance and measures are implemented to achieve continuous improvement. The company also employs safety consultants to assist it in achieving the highest possible standards in safety.
Being safe in the workplace and on-site takes a team effort. In order for projects to be a success, they must be completed safely.
B McCormack Construction is also committed to implementing industry good practice in its approach to the environment. The company conducts its activities within the legal and statutory requirements laid down and takes regard of local authority waste management plans. Recognising that its activities can have an impact on the environment, Barry and his team endeavour to minimise these impacts where possible. Through a review of the practices carried out throughout the company, they have developed systems to manage their environmental objectives.
B McCormack Construction’s environmental policy and procedures are regularly audited through its Environmental Management System. In addition to conducting a six-month review, it regularly monitors Government environmental initiatives and seeks to continually improve the effectiveness of its environmental measures.
A member of the CIF (Construction Industry Federation) and CIRI (Construction Industry Register of Ireland), B McCormack Construction will always work closely with you and your design team to minimise the stress of new builds. The company’s implementation of the latest and best building practices, excellent craftsmanship and the use of high-quality materials will ensure your home or project will be finished to the highest standards.
Extensions, renovations, improvements, alterations and maintenance are the other services provided by Barry, whose work is mostly concentrated in Galway city and county.
“Most of our work is secured through word of month and recommendations. We have a year’s work ahead of us which speaks for itself.”
Barry concludes by thanking his staff, sub-contractors, partners, clients and suppliers for their continued support and cooperation.
