Quality always the priority at Rose Construction Ltd

24 Feb , 2021

Established in 1982, Rose Construction Ltd has amassed a glowing reputation for the quality of its work over the decades. Building Ireland learned all about the Cork city-based company from its Managing Director Simon Reddy recently.

Quality has always come first at Rose Construction Ltd and that perhaps goes a long way towards explaining how the Co Cork company is still going as strong as ever – 38 years since its inception.

Since that time, the second generation business venture has grown to the point where it now employs 30 full-time staff, concentrating on the commercial, residential, healthcare/education and heritage sectors, as well as fit-out projects all throughout the city of Cork.

Simon Reddy is the Managing Director at Rose Construction Ltd, a company started by his father Kevin Reddy snr back in 1982.

Today Simon and Kevin Reddy oversee the running of the family business and the former was able to take some time out recently to fill Building Ireland in on the details.

“The company was started by my father, Kevin snr and most of what we do here now is a lot of fit-out work around Cork city,” explained Simon.

“After that we do heritage projects, commercial and high end residential. The residential work that we’d be doing would be a lot of one-off multi-million euro houses.”

“We also have completed affordable housing schemes for Clúid Housing.”

That’s a far cry from where it all started for the Reddy family back in 1982, to say the least.

Kevin snr took the decision to go out on his own back then through the turbulent decade that was the 1980s in this country and, through some excellent work, grew the company year on year.

Rose Construction Ltd has since gained a reputation for its excellent work and has not lost contact with clients, due to the fact that Kevin and his sons Simon and Kevin Keith maintain a hands-on approach to all contracts.

Simon first joined the company in 1994 and brought it to a higher level of contracting as a result of the experience he had gained working on major contracts within Ireland, as well as overseas with some of the world’s leading construction companies.

He is responsible for the strategy development of Rose Construction Ltd and the overall operations of the company across all sectors.

Kevin Keith Reddy is the current Contracts Director down in Ballyvolane and re-joined the company in 2001 following a stint working overseas.

Kevin himself is in charge of overseeing the company’s construction process, providing detailed feedback to the clients and design teams. It ensures that all projects are conducted within the limits of the budget and on time.

Monitoring subcontractors, planning critical dates, Kevin is constantly identifying areas for improvement in your company’s contracting processes.

The site management team together with a dedicated directly employed workforce of foremen, tradesmen, skilled general operatives, long serving sub-contractors, plus an excellent office back up, reinforces the strong resolve of Rose Construction Ltd to produce quality and value for its clients.

Right now, the number of direct employees stands at 30 for the company – and that could well rise before 2021.

However, business at the moment is in an unfamiliar place thanks to the government lockdown which saw the Irish construction industry brought to a halt for the better part of 10 weeks between March and May.

“It’s unusual at the moment,” said Simon. “The government lockdown shut down a lot of projects overnight but we did a lot of work for the HSE which, thankfully, kept us busy during those weeks.

“In saying that, we’ve definitely seen a slowdown in work across all sectors but hopefully it will pick up again in the coming weeks.”

It’s safe to say that the company’s range of services and sectors has played a major part in its longevity.

Rose Construction Ltd specialises in providing a total package and highly skilled tradesmen and carpenters then bring the designs to life using the finest quality materials and highest standards of workmanship.

The company’s reputation is built on two key aspects; Quality and Safety. Thus they put a great deal of resources into planning projects to ensure that the materials and subcontractors used will enhance the overall quality of the job.

Rose Construction Ltd has worked on numerous fit-out projects which vary from department stores, pharmacies, retail units, restaurants and bars to complex computer rooms.

Works are usually carried out during out of hours and weekends to facilitate clients’ smooth operation while renovations are completed.

Next year leaves Rose Construction Ltd just one away from marking an even four decades in business, so the glaring question is what has been the secret to success?

“I really think it’s down to the quality of our work,” Simon put it plainly.

“We have a tagline here and that is ‘Quality keeps us employed’, and when you look at it we have a lot of clients that have stayed with us down through the years.

“Repeat business is a big part of what we do here and I don’t think you get that without quality in every project you complete.”

Indeed the company has a quality cycle that starts with the designers and includes quality planning, samples, sub-contractor evaluation and supervision, inspection plans.

Rose Construction’s quality circle system is currently being developed throughout all its current projects and they have developed the system keeping in mind the need to ensure that the system enhances the quality of the finished product rather than documents for the sake of documents.

The site management teams are fully committed to producing a quality product and are up to date with the latest software for use in scheduling and programming projects of all sizes.

Rose Construction Ltd is a company which is also driven by compliance, with regard to building regulations and commitment to Health & Safety. It’s also a company which values its employees, sub-contractors and suppliers while putting construction Health & Safety before quick profit on a daily basis every day.

A member of CIF, The Master Builders and Contractors Association and The Civil Engineering Contractors Association, Homebond and the new CIRI approved contractor, look no further than Rose Construction Ltd to improve your company’s contracting process.
