The site clearance specialists

18 May , 2021

Celebrating five years in business, JOC Construction Ltd provides all aspects of site clearance and earthworks to the construction and waste management sectors in the greater Dublin area.

Before construction can begin on any site, the site needs to be cleared and that’s where JOC Construction comes into its own. Based in Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow and owned and operated by Justin O’Connor, the company provides a range of services, including groundworks, landfill services, tipper hire, stone and topsoil supply and low loader hire. Since its inception in 2015, JOC has earned an enviable reputation for professionalism, efficiency and value-for-money. It is committed to maintaining the highest standards of project organisation and tidiness within its works.

JOC Construction can deliver all types of projects, from small residential contracts to large commercial projects. Its modern fleet of haulage vehicles, bulldozers, excavators, dump trucks, rock breakers and rollers are reliable and safe, and can cater for the largest earthmoving projects. In short, JOC has the resources to carry out site clearance, muck away and waste management projects of any size.

All material moved off site is carried under JOC’s National Waste Collection Permit covering Dublin, Kildare, Meath and Wicklow. The environment is always at the forefront of the company’s values and you can rely on it to provide an environmentally-friendly solution for your construction waste needs. The material is disposed of at licensed sites. All loads are fully traceable within EPA guidelines.

JOC Construction’s location just off the N11 and within a short drive of the M50 makes it fully accessible to all parts of Ireland. The contractor’s flexible haulage service, including tippers and grabbers, is suitable for small building works through to large construction projects, demolition and site clearance. Justin O’Connor and his team have worked on some of the largest site clearance jobs in the country from sizes of 75m3 to over 500,000m3. High-profile projects have included drainage and groundworks for the new LUAS rail line at Broombridge in 2016 and the safe removal of contaminated soil from Dublin Port in 2017. Both of these projects were carried out on behalf of Roadbridge.

The company’s approach is to plan, manage and execute each project based on the individual requirements of each job. Its standards revolve around completing projects to tight deadlines, project cost efficiency and working to deliver the exact requirements of its customers.

“We offer site clearance, bulk excavation, demolition and civil engineering services to some of Ireland’s leading construction companies,” Justin says.

“While we’re still a relatively new company, I have 30 years’ experience in the sector and my father Pat O’Connor was in the business before me. We pride ourselves on providing a top-class service and operate to the highest environmental standards. We’re committed to reducing the amount of material sent to landfill. To this end, soil which is contaminated or not suitable for reuse is removed to an appropriate permitted landfill site.”

JOC has grown to employ 30 people (including sub-contractors) and has an array of machinery, including nine DAF and Renault tipper lorries which were purchased from DAF Trucks Ireland and Setanta Vehicles Sales respectively. All trucks and equipment are maintained and upgraded on a regular basis to ensure there is no such thing as downtime.

“We have the machines and the manpower to carry out any size of job. Our people are one of our greatest strengths. Their knowledge, experience and expertise are second to none,” Justin explains.

The company enjoys an excellent working relationship with main building contractors such as Roadbridge, Balfour Beatty, Durkan Homes, Sisk, Duggan Brothers and JJ Rhatigan. In the past year, JOC has carried out groundworks on major housing developments for Sisk Living, Balfour Beatty and Durkan Homes in Dublin.

“We did the groundworks for 63 social housing units built by Sisk Living on Bunratty Road, Coolock and for 42 social houses for Durkan Homes in Finglas. We also did the groundworks for Balfour Beatty on a seven-story student accommodation complex in Gloucester Place, and have recently started jobs for Duggan Brothers and JJ Rhatigan in Dublin city centre. We’re kept busy all the time.”

The Gloucester Place building consists of nine apartments and 67 studios. The lower ground floor includes a reception area, study zone and a games / relaxation room. The ground floor level connects via a link bridge to the existing Kavanagh Court student residence. Balfour Beatty worked in collaboration with the client, Global Student Accommodation, and their representatives to deliver a first-class project.

JOC Construction has come a long way in the past five years and has no intention of resting on its laurels. Justin would like to take this opportunity to thank his customers and suppliers for their continued support as well as his staff for their hard work, dedication and skill.

Office opening hours are 9am to 5pm Monday-Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.
