Denphi Construction was established in 1990 by Philip Doyle Snr a Quantity surveyor who managed the office and his two sons Denis and Philip both carpenters managed all site works, while their mother Joan Doyle managed the bookwork.
The experience gathered over the past 31 years has proved invaluable to the company as it has allowed them to tender and be awarded some very prestigious projects during that period.
“Our goal at the start was to create high quality builds, to let the standard of our work speak for us, nothing has changed since then. We still believe that the quality we provide is the best advertisement for our business, to this end we directly employ our tradespeople, most of whom have been with the company for years, they know our expectations and the level of service our clients have come to expect as standard,” stated Philip who spoke to Building Ireland for this month’s edition of the publication.
“Philip Snr regrettably passed away in 2006 and is still dearly missed, our company has continued to provide a specialised and dedicated service to the residential, commercial, industrial and public sectors. Our experienced management team is dedicated to consistently providing an excellent service to all our clients so they can be confident knowing their projects will be completed on time and within budget and to the highest standard achievable,” added Philip.
Denphi Construction’s consistently high levels of repeat business and referrals are down to the fact that they are construction professionals who care about build quality and client satisfaction. Their objective is to constantly deliver a friendly and approachable service and professional project management.
“Each job is important to us and is seen through to the end. We don’t take any shortcuts. We are constantly developing our services and have a proven track record and excellent reputation within the industry.
“We carry out work for State bodies and Private industry. We have been involved in numerous prestigious projects around the country including real one-off projects like the Malting Tower, Coastguard Station Howth OPW, the Tapir House and kiosk, the Wolves’ and Tiger’s enclosure in Dublin Zoo OPW; Activation and Rehabilitation Centres for Peamount Hospital HSE, Highfield Café, staff canteen and restaurant, external lift shaft and Children’s internal play area in St Luke’s Hospital as well as doing a lot of work for DPL Group on their various branches. Some of our most recent residential work was for Adrian Hill Architects in Monkstown and Fia O Caoimh in Malahide.”
One of the newest services that the company provides is Insulated Concrete Formwork ICF, which is a new building technology. A building constructed using the Amvic ICF system will achieve far higher thermal, sound, and fire performance standards than traditional construction methods such as block or timber frame, and at a much lower cost for comparable performance than any other building system available today. A house built with Amvic ICF will easily meet the building regulation’s requirements for air tightness, junction thermal bridging minimization and U-Value needed for an A3 rated home, as standard.
Philip stressed that their employees play a massive role in the success of the business, many of whom have been with them for years, even the sub-contractors used have a long-standing working relationship with the brothers.
“The high standard that our customers have come to expect is achieved by employing teams of experienced trades-persons under our direct control; most of these have been part of our company for many years. All our employees have been vetted for quality and expertise and fully understand our expectations and those of our clients.
“In addition to providing skilled builders on site, we can offer access to independent specialists such as architects, designers and structural engineers to help add that extra special touch and turn your dreams and ideas into reality.”
Given the company’s longevity in the construction industry, they have seen a lot, although nothing could have prepared them for what 2020 threw upon us.
“We thought we had seen it all during our time in business, but no one saw what was coming last year and it has of course affected our business, it has everyone else. The work is out there though and hopefully the sector will open up fully in the very near future. WE have a good bit of work on and usually we like to run two jobs concurrently and we are tied up for the next six months, once we get back working to full capacity.”
Denphi Construction is one of the companies that made it through the last recession and Philip admits that they learned a lot from that period.
“I think most companies involved in the building trade would have learned a lot from the recession. It is certainly getting busier and will continue to do so, but there has to be a more level-headedness in the industry compared to last time.”
Philip and Denis pride themselves on the flexibility, professionalism, experience and safety record they have gained through their many years of successful trading. This is brought to bear on every project undertaken by them.
They employ the best people, invest heavily in their training and education and they ensure that the highest standards of health and safety are applied throughout their organisation.
“Health and Safety is paramount with us. At the end of the day, we all want to get home to our families, so it is an area that we place a great deal of attention on and fortunately we have not had any serious accidents. We have implemented all the Covid procedures and adhere to the regulations that have been introduced by the CIF, so we are doing all we can.”
With regards to the future and further expansion, Philip stressed that they are happy to maintain their current workload and ensure that their long-standing customers continue to be happy with the service that they provide.
The affable company director concluded by stating: “We have no grá to take over the world. We are happy to stay the same size that we are and continue to provide a good service. We try to leave the best job we can and as long as our clients are happy, then so are we. Working closely with them is very important and we would always consult them at every stage of a project.”
