Celebrating 10 years in business, G Seery Construction Ltd caters for all types of construction works around the Midlands region. Building Ireland touched base with the company’s owner and founder Gabriel Seery to learn all about what is a thriving construction business outside of Moate, Co Westmeath.
Business is good right now at G Seery Construction Ltd and the plan for Gabriel Seery and his team down in Moyvoughley is to keep things that way throughout 2021.
Established in April 2011, G Seery Construction employs four full-time staff and along with their reliable sub-contractors, provides its clients with an efficient service through a high standard of craftsmanship.
Building Ireland caught up with Managing Director Gabriel Seery to find out all about the company – from its origins to the state of business today.
“We’re established 10 years now and generally we specialise in one-off houses, extensions and renovations and we do everything from commercial work to private houses,” he outlined.
“A lot of our work is based around Westmeath, Offaly, Roscommon and Longford.”
A Building Management graduate from Limerick IT, Gabriel began working for John Sisk and Sons Ltd before moving to the Westmeath based company Cunnane and Donaghey Construction.
During nine years with Cunnane and Donaghey Construction, Gabriel spent seven years working as their Senior Contracts Manager. During this time, he gained the vital experience necessary to set up his own business and, in the Spring of 2011, G Seery Construction Ltd was established.
Establishing a construction company in early 2011 was a brave move considering the effects of the economic recession of 2008.
G Seery Construction started delivering projects with a high standard of craftmanship while building an excellent reputation along the way.
The company began by working on projects such as house extensions and renovations. Success in these ventures progressed to larger one-off bespoke houses and commercial and retail projects.
“There were challenges getting off the ground at first, but we started off on projects in and around Dublin and it grew from there.
“As our portfolio and reputation grew, we got more work in the Midlands closer to home and thankfully, the economy improved and we’re still here and still in demand.”
While remaining busy, the past year has certainly presented its challenges as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and the enforced government restrictions that followed.
The latest lockdown at the beginning of 2021 meant that construction companies could only work on essential projects, so this remained the focus for Gabriel and his team heading into the Spring.
“2020 was a challenging year for everybody but thankfully, business remained strong and steady,” said the Managing Director.
“During the first lockdown last year we were closed for the best part of two months but since the first lockdown lifted on May 18th last year, work has been ongoing.”
Ten years on from its foundation G Seery Construction continues to grow, from strength to strength.
So, what has been the secret to success over the past decade for this company?
According to Gabriel, two things in particular have stood to G Seery Construction since its establishment: “The quality of our work and our dedication to our clients.
“It is always reassuring that a lot of our work comes through word of mouth from our clients and from architects and engineers that we closely with.”
Since “Day One” it has been the objective of G Seery Construction to keep up to speed with all the latest industry standards and regulations.
“We strive to be innovative and have no fear when it comes to trying new and improved ways of working.
“In fact, we were one of the first contractors in Westmeath to install a Kore passive raft system, eliminating cold bridging to the substructure of a house.
“Since then, we completed a number of these Kore insulated systems both as part of our own projects and for clients going the self-build route.”
Gabriel is optimistic for the future as business remains brisk with a number of jobs in the pipeline during the coming year.
“There’s some uncertainty going forward but work wise I don’t think it’s going to be a problem. The continuous increase in costs from suppliers during these uncertain times can be challenging but we have worked through tough times before and I have no doubt the industry will overcome these challenges.”
