Business is good these days at Thurles Hardware Ltd and the plan for its manager PJ Butler, and the rest of the team down in Stradavoher, is to try and keep things that way right through to 2022.
Operating with seven staff, the company provides customers with top quality products that are developed to the highest standards and latest designs while also maintaining very competitive prices.

Building Ireland touched base with PJ Butler to learn all about this thriving business situated in the Premier County.
“We’re based at Unit 5 Thurles Retail Park, Stradavoher, Thurles and the business itself has been established since 2012,” PJ outlined.
“We have excellent bathroom and tile showrooms here and, basically, we supply everything associated with them. We also provide timber flooring, paints, light hardware and heating and plumbing products for our customers as well.”

Rewind back to the origins of the business and it takes you back more than three decades, in a time when PJ had started his journey in the heating and plumbing sector.
When the company he had been working for closed its doors, the Tipperary native felt that there was a niche in the market and, the way he saw it, Thurles was the perfect location to open up shop.
“My own background would’ve seen me working in heating and plumbing as far back as 1989,” he said.
“I had been working with one company for years and got the experience under my belt there. They closed in 2012 and I was lucky enough to be able to start up my own business in the same year.
“Thankfully, we’re still here going strong almost 10 years later.”
Indeed, Thurles Hardware Ltd is still thriving as the company gets set to mark a decade in business next year.
Even the challenges brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, and the government lockdowns which followed in order to battle the spread of the virus, didn’t deter the rate of business at Unit 5 Thurles Retail Park as customer demand remained very high.
“Business has been very good over the last year-and-a-half,” said PJ.
“We did some major work on our new bathroom showroom about a year-and-a-half ago and we’ve basically been flat out since, even with the pandemic.
“We were never totally shut here during the lockdowns because of the services we offered and now we’re completely open and things are going very well.”
So, what has been the secret to success for Thurles Hardware Ltd over these past nine years?
How has a small start-up grown into a flourishing business with excellent facilities and products which are very much top of the range?
According to PJ, providing customer service which remains second to none has been key along the way.
“We’re a small business that would be pretty well-known in the area for providing excellent products,” he stated.
“I think customer service is the big thing when it comes to this line of work, I’ve always felt we’ve provided excellent customer service here at Thurles Hardware.”
Looking towards the coming months for the business, PJ remains as optimistic as ever for what’s around the corner.
Thurles Hardware Ltd is currently as busy as it’s ever been and has added a new member to its staff in recent times.
Things are looking good as the company approaches 10 years in business, according to the General Manager.
“We provide a delivery service for our customers here with two vans on the road and we just added another lad to the team in the last few months,” said PJ.
“We just want to keep going and keep on expanding and, business-wise, we’re happy enough to have more of the same in the coming months.
“We have a very loyal customer base here. So, we want to keep providing quality products and keep doing what we’re doing at the moment.”
