The construction industry has certainly arisen from the ashes over the past 18 months to two years as the effects of the injection of cash from expenditure by Irish Water, FDI, NAMA, Utilities, Environmental/Landfill and other key Civil Engineering Projects into the Construction Industry have begun to take hold.
There are many companies around Ireland that specialise in these types of projects, but few can compare with the type of expertise and experience that Rossmore Civils has gained and provided to it’s ever increasing customer base over the past eight years.
Based in Little Island, Co Cork, this Irish owned firm was established by Directors, John Curtin and Martin Fagan, in 2008.
Both men have a wealth of experience in the Construction Industry before they set up the business and their knowledge has helped them make great strides in the past eight years.
For this month’s edition of Building Ireland, we profile the company and Martin gives us an insight into what it takes to run a successful firm.
“We provide a number of services to our Client base such as Site Development, Enabling Works, Large Civils Works, Concrete Works and Finishes/Landscaping Works over a wide geographic area in both in Ireland and the U.K,” said Martin.
“On these contracts Rossmore Civils is fully committed in providing a quality service to its client base while ensuring at all times a safe working environment for all of its employees”
Having started the business at the tail end of the Celtic Tiger, Rossmore Civils has had to deal with a growing recession and for a fledgling company like itself, this could have been detrimental to their chances of forging a bright future. However, a strong business ethic helped them through this and Martin feels that the company are stronger for it.
“The key to going forward during the recession was to tightly control what we did, deliver value for money to our Clients and to ensure combined repeat business with the measured development of new Clients. When the company was first started, the focus was to secure sub-contracting works, but through time we have developed our business to include a mix of both Main Contracting and Sub-contracting Works with the emphasis on the development of the company into a main-stream Building and Civil Engineering Contractor. However, the nature of the Irish and UK Markets will inevitably require us to continue to operate at both a Main Contracting and a Sub-Contracting level.”
“Rossmore Civils have been involved in many projects over recent years with some of the more prestigious ones including work in both Dublin and Cork airports, the M7 Motorway, the N11 Arklow to Rathnew PPP and all of the top Pharmaceutical developments across the country.
Rossmore Civils involvement on the N11 Arklow to Rathnew PPP consisted of the earthworks and drainage upgrade works on the existing live N11 road along the Arklow bypass. While on the Motorway project Rossmore have carried out over 12,000m of carriageway drainage installation and culverted watercourses across the proposed road alignment.
Their current projects include Clients such as Covanta (Poolbeg), Facebook (Clonee), Irish Distillers (Dublin) and a number of Pharmaceutical facilities in the Dublin area.
“We are a nationwide company, with a bias towards Works being undertaken in Dublin in line with the level of opportunity currently available in that area. We have 120 employees, all of who are highly trained and certified in their field of expertise. We have developed strong relationships with our key Specialist Sub-contractors to compliment our ability to ensure that we are always in a position to provide our clients with a quality service”
Rossmore Civils owns and utilises a fleet of high quality equipment, controlled by skilled and experienced operators and maintained to the highest standards. With this resource at its disposal, the company is firmly positioned to carry out all types of Building and civil Engineering Works and react quickly to Contract requirements.
“Our company is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in all aspects of the delivery of the Works we undertake. Our ability to perform to the highest standards is founded on the ability to source, attract and utilize resources of the highest calibre. This approach is exemplified by the retention level of staff of the highest professional integrity/ability and the acquisition and maintenance of top quality plant resources.”
Rossmore Civils have been awarded certification in a number of areas as the company’s drive for excellence ensures that their standards never wane.
“Our approach to contract management is constant review, assessment and improvement and we believe in the up-skilling of our Staff as the diversity of the Projects demand. We have been awarded certification to the ISO 9001 standard for quality management, and the ISO 18001 standard for health and safety management. Further to this we have also certification to the ISO 14001 standard for environmental management and are currently a registered Contractor with both the Construction Industry Register Ireland (CIRI) and Construction Industry Federation (CIF). We believe in implementing an ethos of absolute compliance with the current Health and Safety Legislation across all our contracts”
The future is optimistic for this ever growing company and Martin revealed that cautious but deliberate expansion was the way forward for them combined with a well-developed management structure.
“We are rightly proud of our levels of repeat business while seeking out New Clients as partners with whom we can establish strong trading relationships with. We want to expand in a controlled environment and continue to deliver on the high standard of work that our clients have come to expect of us.”
