Corr & Nyland Building Contractors Ltd is a leading civil engineering contractor with over two decades’ experience in delivering top-class projects.
Specialising in civil engineering, groundworks, general haulage, low loader hire, grab hire and tractor and dump trailer hire, the company was established in 2000 and has grown to employ 23 people directly, and many more on a sub-contract basis. With depots in Lismacaffrey, Co. Westmeath and Kilcock, Co. Kildare, Corr & Nyland has earned an outstanding reputation for delivering high-quality civil engineering and groundworks projects on time and within budget, predominantly in the Dublin area.
Complete customer satisfaction is achieved through working together as a team and providing a reliable, efficient and value-for-money service. Under managing director Oliver Corr, the contracting firm has developed close working relationships with Liffey Contracts, Gannon Homes, KN Circet and South Dublin Construction to name but a few. It also holds waste collection permits for all of Ireland, including hazardous waste.
All employees are trained to the highest standards, and are skilled and experienced workers who complete projects that not only meet, but exceed client expectations. As well as being a member of the CIF, IRHA and CIRI, the Westmeath-headquartered company is the holder of a Safe-T-Cert which is a certification scheme designed for certifying the Safety Management Systems of contractors working in the construction industry. Health & Safety is paramount, and never more so than in this post-Covid age.
Developing from the early stages of remedial works, Corr & Nyland steadily progressed into site development, civil works and building works in Westmeath, Dublin and surrounding counties. It has since added several other strings to its bow, including a general haulage service between the midlands and Dublin for Kilsaran, Flood Precast and Kilmurray Precast.
“I’m originally from Claremorris in Co. Mayo where I started off working with my uncle in civil engineering,” explains Oliver, whose wife Ena is also a director of the company.
“I set up this company in December 2000 and have been based in Lismacaffrey since 2005. We had Dublin offices in Santry and Rathcoole before moving to Portgloriam on the Clane Road, Kilcock three years ago. Having initially carried out building repairs and renovations, we now do the civil works from tender stage to completion.
“In addition to this, we specialise in general haulage and plant hire. We have an array of machinery and equipment to cater for all your civil engineering and groundworks needs.”
Oliver runs an eight-strong fleet of excavators ranging from three to 26 tonnes. He also has a JCB 180-degree rubber wheeled machine, two Fendt tractors and two dump trailers. For haulage, he runs six articulated trucks and one rigid, which are a mix of MAN and Scania.
“We provide the whole package for our clients with the most skilled labour force. We have our own fleet of lorries, excavators, tractors and dump trailers,” Oliver says.
“We have seven Kobelco diggers – two with GPS control – and one Hitachi. We deal with McSharry Bros in Roscommon for Kobelco, O’Reilly Commercials in Ballinalack for MAN, McElvaney’s in Monaghan for Scania and Atkin’s in Birr for Fendt. The rigid truck is used for grab hire.”
Corr & Nyland is currently involved in a 225-unit site development project in Mooretown, Swords along with Liffey Contracts and Gannon Homes. “The scope of works includes foundations, floors, drainage and site services. We’re about 15 months into it and will be here for another 15 months at least,” the affable Mayo man explains.
“We’re also working with KN Circet on a 1km stretch of road in Ballymun for Dublin City Council and have recently completed site works on a luxury development of six houses and six apartments in Sandyford for South Dublin Construction. We’ve a good bit of work going on.”
The fact that the company provides a full suite of building services to help realise any project – no matter how big or small – is another draw for clients. Oliver and his team are full experienced in all aspects of the general building industry from civil construction, commercial building, road construction, public works and drainage works to demolition, school construction and residential projects.
Oliver – whose 15-year-old daughter Caoimhe helps out during school holidays – has always felt that there’s no substitute for high standards and this has been his mantra since he set up the business. “I think it comes down to the quality of the workmanship and the fact that we deliver projects on time and within the agreed budget,” he adds.
As Corr & Nyland continues to go from strength to strength, Oliver would like to take this opportunity to thank his customers and suppliers for their support. He would also like to thank his staff and sub-contractors for their hard work, skill and dedication.
