For over 38 years, Dartmouth Building Works Ltd has been making dreams become a reality. Specialising in renovations, refurbishments, extensions, fitouts, new one-off builds and groundworks, the family-run business has earned an enviable reputation for delivering residential and commercial projects of the highest quality.
Established in 1986 by Gerard Doherty, Paul Merriman, George Walsh and the late David O’Brien, Dartmouth Building Works is now run by family members, Lorraine, Martin and Alan Merriman along with 20 direct employees and the same number of sub-contractors. Paul only recently retired from the business which serves the greater Dublin area from its base in Ballymount, Dublin 22.
“Our aim is to carry on Paul and Gerard’s legacy and to build on it,” Alan Merriman says.
“The company has built up a large and loyal client-base in that time which included the likes of Brennan’s Bread, Blenders, St Michael’s House, Doyle’s Bakery, and Saica Pack . We’re looking to add to our portfolio and to grow the company further.
“We have a top-class team of tradespeople who are dedicated to not only meeting, but exceeding clients’ expectations. There is a huge variety in our work and that’s what appeals to us. Our aim is to make our customers happy.”
Superior workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of Dartmouth Building Works. Health & Safety is at the core of the business, and never more so than in the aftermath of Covid-19. From concept to completion, the Dartmouth team is with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is built to your specific needs.
Whether your next project is an extension, renovation, office fitout or new build, Dartmouth Building Works’ one-stop shop approach will ensure that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Dublin contractor’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from designer teams and scores of satisfied clients.
By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with its engineers and architects, and using only the very best building products, this fully insured family business is able to deliver the highest quality construction to its clients. Its main suppliers are Murdock Builders Merchants, Chadwicks, Brooks Timber & Building Supplies and Roadstone. Sub-contractors include H. Shiels Electrical, LT Electrical, Redmond Roofing, Aries Mechanical, Brian O’ Toole Heating and plumbing, D. Phillips Decorators, Crossflow Ventilation, Kenplast Plastering, Onno Schunck Landscaping and Murphy Bros External Insulation, while O’Daly Architects, Robert Burke, John O’Keeffe, Sean McCann, Cathal O’ Neill, Maria McVeigh and Micheal Mohan are just some of the architects Dartmouth regularly collaborates with. The company also carries out a lot of work for building surveying companies, including Thornton Building Surveyors and Scott Murphy Building Surveyors.
The company is constantly evolving and adapting to keep apace with an ever-changing construction sector, from regular staff training to sustainable construction practices. Dartmouth Building Works carries out many high-end residential refurbishment and extension projects every year. Recent examples of this can be found at Seafort, Sandymount as well as Cherrygarth, Mount Merrion, and Taney Park Dundrum. As members of SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland), it undertakes many deep retrofit projects to achieve a BER of A-rating on old bungalows and homes. To this end, Dartmouth works closely with the aforementioned external insulation specialists Murphy Bros in Kilkenny to achieve air tightness and A-rated homes.
The building contracting / project management firm also specialises in office refurbishments and fitouts. One of its current projects is an office fitout at Maple House in Stillorgan. In addition, Dartmouth Building Works has an array of plant and machinery to carry out drainage and concrete works, making it a one-stop shop for all your construction needs.
“We do a lot of civil works for Saica Packaging in Ashbourne, e.g. concreting loading bays and installing drains. We have a team who are dedicated to groundworks and operating the diggers and various other machinery,” explains Alan.
Dartmouth’s extensive knowledge and expertise is often called upon to assist with carrying out essential maintenance on office and apartment buildings where roof works have failed. Recent works in the greater Dublin area including replacing all parapet cappings, installing new flashings over bay windows, works to screens to prevent water ingress beneath them, balcony replacements, window replacements and fire door replacement.
Passionate about construction, Dartmouth Building Works would like to take this opportunity to thank its clients, suppliers and design teams for their continued support as well as its staff and sub-contractors for their hard work, commitment and skill.
