O’Meara Construction – Building with pride

25 Jul , 2023

O’Meara Construction (Moneygall) Ltd is a third-generation family business offering a professional building service to homeowners in North Tipperary and surrounding areas. The company is run by Barry O’Meara along with his father Liam, son Oisín and two other full-time staff.

The O’Meara name has been synonymous with the construction sector since the 1970s when Liam started out. Liam is still involved in the Nenagh-based operation which has traded as O’Meara Construction since 1997. While the family business undertakes one or two new one-off residential builds each year, it’s primarily focused on extensions and renovations. It provides a complete service from concept to completion.

Outstanding workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of O’Meara Construction. Health & Safety is at the core of the business, and never more so than since the Covid-19 pandemic. The O’Meara team is with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs, and that there are no hidden or extra costs involved.

Whether your next project is an extension, refurbishment or new build, O’Meara Construction’s one-stop shop approach will ensure that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Co. Tipperary contractor’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from designers and scores of satisfied clients.

By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with design teams and using only the very best building products, this fully insured contractor is able to deliver the highest quality construction to its clients. O’Meara Construction’s small but dedicated team is supported by the same tried and trusted subcontractors who include Shane O’Gorman (electrical), Paul English and Seamus Treacy (plumbing), Ray Jones (block-laying), Brian Delaney (carpentry) and Mike Murphy (stonework). The building firm’s main suppliers are Sheehan’s Hardware in Nenagh, Mack Engineering in Nenagh, Maher Aluminium in Nenagh, Kelly’s of Fantane and Nenagh Plant Hire.

“We’re a member of the CIF and Homebond, and have over 40 years’ experience in renovations, extensions and new builds. We are predominantly involved in the residential sector, but have completed some commercial works also. All our work and materials are of the highest standard,” Barry O’Meara says.

“We will talk you through the process, advising on structure, safety and energy efficiency as well as other lesser-known elements of new builds such as local planning laws and regulations. We strive to make our new builds as airtight and energy-efficient as possible. We can advise on the most effective methods and features to use so that you can reduce your energy costs and protect the environment.

“Every customer is given a clear, detailed quotation and we talk them through each aspect of the price. By combining our experience with innovative thinking, we can offer cost-effective solutions without ever compromising on quality or Health & Safety.”

O’Meara Construction has completed a number of passive builds in recent years. One of its standout projects was converting an old storehouse / granary into a passive home.

“We’re as busy as we want to be. We were a bigger concern in the 2000s, but scaled back because of the extra stress involved. We stay close to home when it comes to carrying out projects. We stick to Nenagh and the North Tipperary area,” Barry explains.

O’Meara Construction prides itself on its friendly and personable service.

“As a family business, you deal directly with us. When you ring, you’ll always get one of us on the phone. I’m a very hands-on person who’s onsite every day. We used to undertake a lot of conservation work on churches and old buildings, and that has stood to us. The old saying went: ‘When you deal with O’Meara’s, you get them’.”

The cost of building materials has sky-rocketed since the pandemic and this is being acutely felt in the residential sector. However, Barry is confident that the worst is over.

“Prices have stabilised a bit. But there’s no getting away from the fact that they have got out of hand over the past couple of years. We couldn’t absorb the increases on certain materials and had to pass them on to the client. Unfortunately, there was no other way around it.”

With Oisín now following in his father and grandfather’s footsteps, the future of O’Meara Construction looks to be in safe hands. Barry would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients and suppliers for their continued support as well as his staff and subcontractors for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
