James Heneghan Electrical, Plumbing & Heating Contractor Ltd provides its clients with an extensive range of plumbing, electrical and construction services throughout the west of the country. Building Ireland caught up with the man himself to hear more about the company’s projects and its overall plans going forward.
Business is good these days at James Heneghan Electrical, Plumbing & Heating Contractor Ltd and the plan for its namesake founder, along with the rest of the team in Westport, Co Mayo, is to try and keep things that way right through to next year.
Operating with full-time staff, subcontractors and a fleet of vehicles on the road, the company specialises in plumbing, electrical and construction services with a strong client base having been built up over the past quarter century or so.
It became a registered the business 17 years ago and, to this day, is very much a family-run business with James’s wife Mary also a director and their son Patrick, who is a qualified electrician, immersed in the company nearly a decade and is now a Foreman.
Building Ireland spoke with James recently to discuss the ins and outs of the business and what keeps it ahead of the competition.
“I’m glad to say that we’re flat out at the moment here. Business is good,” says James.
The team at James Heneghan Electrical, Plumbing & Heating Contractor Ltd has years of experience when it comes to handling installation, maintenance and repair requests.
They are able to handle projects of all sizes and specifications, whether it’s a simple fault-finding service or a new build project, the company’s tradesmen have all received extensive training and only work with materials and equipment sourced from trusted suppliers in order to guarantee their quality.
Right now, the project books are full for this family-run firm addressed at Oughty, Liscarney, Westport, Co Mayo, as James himself explained: “We do new builds, refurbishments and extensions of houses.
“We also do refurbishment of bathrooms as well, which is separate, and we might have 10 or 12 of them on at any time as well.”
Closer to home, James and his team have carried out electrical and plumbing works for Dublin-based company Johnston Shopfitters. It saw projects carried out in two of their stores in Westport as well as another in Galway city.
Busy times indeed.
So, the clear question is what has been the secret behind James Heneghan Electrical, Plumbing & Heating Contractor Ltd’s success to date?
How has a small start-up grown into a thriving business with a wide variety of services that holds an excellent reputation amongst its clients?
For James, he sees two key factor that the business always uses its approach as being key.
“It’d be reliability and quality. That’s what most people are looking for and we also have all the aspects of the trades,” said the Managing Director.
“We’re not just a builder, we have the trades within our company – the electricians, carpenters, plumbers, roofers – they’re all here and that’s a big draw in for anyone and that’s why we’re always busy here.”
Looking at the months ahead for the company and into 2024, James is as optimistic as ever and revealed that a change in management will eventually be coming down the line.
“That would be the road because my son Patrick is in the company as well and I’d be hoping to let him do an awful lot more and I’ll sort of step back when the time is right.”
He concluded: “It is a family-run business. Mary is my wife and she’s a director and in the office and my son is foreman, so it’s very much a family company here.”
