The construction industry has evolved considerably over the years and technology now plays a massive part in any project or development.
As technology advances, building firms must learn to adapt to the latest procedures and one of the most innovative companies in the industry at present is Dublin based Tritech Engineering.
Established in 1999 and headquartered in the South City Business Park, Tallaght, this ever-growing company has not been afraid to move with the times and diversify into different sectors when needed.
Directors Tom Comerford and Peter Keane first set up the business offering a mechanical engineering service. They were joined by Laois native Joe Delaney in 2003 and five years later, the electrical division of the company was born, while the maintenance service soon followed.
For this month’s edition of Building Ireland, we speak to Joe who talks us through each area of the business, while revealing the latest technology that they use.
The company has established itself as a leading multi-disciplined projects company who have gained significant experience across a wide range of business sectors.
“We offer our clients a full range of Mechanical, Electrical and Maintenance Services including Engineering, Project Management, Design & Build, Construction, Asset Management, PPM, 24/7 reactive maintenance and validation,” explained Joe.
“Every aspect of the business has grown over the years and so too has the confidence in our ability to deliver a top quality service to our customer base every time.”
Tritech Engineering managed to get through the recession and Joe admitted that there were positives to take from those few years and he feels that they have become a stronger company because of it.
“We brought in key staff during this period and that has certainly helped us. We have a solid team in place here and we would employ in the region of 110 direct staff while also managing numerous specialist sub-contract staff.”
The mechanical division has seen the company successfully execute projects in sectors such as commercial office developments, hotels & leisure, retail, educational and universities, as well as process installations in the life science, pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries.
“In the electrical division, which is headed by director Fergal Reilly, our multi-discipline project approach has enabled us to build a team of professionals with the qualifications, experience and passion to deliver complex electrical engineering projects.
“Our electrical experience extends across sectors such as commercial office developments, hotels & leisure, retail, educational and universities, as well as process installations in the life science, pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries.”
The maintenance end of the business was a natural progression given the services that they already offered and planned preventative maintenance is something that many businesses demand.
“Ongoing maintenance of mechanical and electrical plant items is fundamental to meet occupiers and owners legal responsibilities. We can advise and assist in all elements of legislation and help by putting together a programme of work which will eliminate the stresses of conformity.
“Our dedicated team of engineers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days per year. Our customised field management software tracks and logs all reactive call outs from dispatch through to client sign off.”
There are many things that set the company apart from their competitors, but one area in particular sees them at the forefront of their field of expertise.
Building information modelling (BIM) is a process involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places.
Traditional building design was largely reliant upon two-dimensional technical drawings (plans, elevations, sections, etc.). Building information modelling extends this beyond 3D, augmenting the three primary spatial dimensions (width, height and depth) with time as the fourth dimension (4D) and cost as the fifth (5D).
BIM therefore covers more than just geometry. It also covers spatial relationships, light analysis, geographic information, and quantities and properties of building components (for example, manufacturers’ details).
BIM design tools allow extraction of different views from a building model for drawing production and other uses. These different views are automatically consistent, being based on a single definition of each object instance.
“BIM greatest strength is productivity. We explored the market and found that through partnerships with industry professionals the perceived barriers to using BIM as a services coordination tool on projects where the architectural model does not exist are easily overcome.”

“We are experiencing a growth phase and have a number of projects ongoing at the moment and the aim is to continue this progress over the years ahead.
“As workload is increasing and we are monitoring the growth phase of the business. We are an experienced company and one of the key areas that we will be pushing is BIM. We have already completed projects using this technology such as APC Pharmaceutical, a project consisting of laboratories and commercial office space with exposed services throughout.”

Tritech are committed to giving employees the opportunity to progress and they receive the highest possible training. Apprentices are taken on annually and the majority have stayed with the company beyond their term and this contributes to the dynamic of the company.
“The majority of our staff would be pipefitters, plumbers and electricians and all would be highly trained. We are continually looking at how we can do it better. We understand the importance of solid quality management systems and are therefore committed to the continuous improvement of our internal processes.”
