Based in Lucan, Co Dublin, Agile Building Group specialises in new build, extension and renovation works for its clients. Building Ireland spoke with its young Managing Director Evan Dunne to learn all about the ins and outs of this company, its on-going projects and overall ambitions going forward.
These are busy times at Agile Building Group and the plan for its founder Evan Dunne and his team of 15 staff is to try and keep things that way for the foreseeable.
Established at the start of 2023, the company is very much a one-stop shop for all of its clients’ construction needs, specialising new builds, extensions and renovations in particular.
Agile Building Group operates from 5 Rosecourt Avenue, Lucan, Co Dublin, with six vans on the road, and Evan’s mother Jaqueline and brother Bailey both play integral roles when it comes to the day-to-day works.
Building Ireland touched base with Evan Dunne recently to find out more about the business and its work on the North Strand house project which featured on RTE’s Room To Improve programme recently.
“The business itself is established about two-and-a-half years and there’s around 15 staff working here at the moment,” the Managing Director outlined.
“We specialise in new builds, extensions and renovations that would be mid to high-end. We do it all in the construction industry. We’re a one-stop shop really and we cover everything. We finish houses, basically, so the demolition phase, construction phase, first fix and second fix and painting.
“So, we’re a one-stop shop for our clients here.”
Evan’s own background saw him immersed in carpentry work and, after spending a few years working for a builder, he took the bold decision to go out and start up his own business venture.
As he says himself, he “had absolutely nothing starting off”, but would get the money together to purchase his own van and tools and take things from there.
Fast-forward to today and the now 26-year-old is heading up his own construction business which has 15 staff on its books, half a dozen vans on the road and the projects seem to keep on coming.
It’s all a far cry from where things started out for the Dubliner, as he admits getting off the ground with his new construction venture was no easy task at the time.
“It’s not for the fainthearted, put it that way. It was really difficult,” Evan admitted.
“Set-back after set-back and even now, we’re established in a way, but we’re not quite where we want to be yet. I’m still growing and planning on having a multi-million-euro business, so we’d like to get into office blocks and housing estates eventually.
“We’re on the right track for it. Starting off is really difficult because nobody wants to take on somebody that had no reputation, especially with fairly big jobs.
“My thing was that I didn’t really want to start off from the bottom up, but it was really difficult.”
Through its graft, endeavour and professional approach, Agile Building Group has grown to the point now where it’s well known for carrying out excellent work on its projects.
At the time of writing, Evan and his staff were putting the finishing touches on the North Strand project – a project which became known as one the most difficult renovation jobs on the popular RTE show ‘Room To Improve’.
A massive amount of work had to be carried on the north Dublin house, with problems including a lack of land drain in the two-storey over basement abode.
While Agile Building Group’s work on the project was challenging to say the least, Evan was delighted to have his company playing a key part in the process of its successful renovation.
“We have a couple of architects that we get work off now and we’ve built up really great relationships with people over the last couple of years,” he said.
“So, we do have a lot of work coming in the door but I’m really tedious with what I take on now. A bit of exposure with this project (North Strand) is great so it is.
“It started in late October. We’re in the process of slabbing now, so we’re into finishing off the house. Then the other one that’s on-going is in Ringsend and that’s a double door extension.
“We’ve done a lot of work over on the north side last year, including a tonne of work in Ballyfermot, and in order to keep 15 men busy and six vans on the road, you have to be fairly in demand for constant work. So we’re busy here at the moment, yeah.”
Evan is eager for his company to keep growing and, above all else, continue delivering quality work on its projects for clientele.
Now very much viewed as a one-stop shop for its customers’ construction needs, you can be sure that Agile Building Group will keep on striving towards bigger and better things by carrying out an impeccable service time and time again.
The months ahead are ones that Evan himself is very optimistic about going forward.
“We have a great work environment for all of the employees, so I’d like to keep that up,” he said.
“I’d like to keep the lads happy at work and keep clients satisfied. I’d like to complete a small development by the end of the year and, overall, just keep the company running efficiently. That’s what my hopes would be.”
Here’s hoping.
