Analog Devices Expansion Project Wins Prestigious Project of the Year at ICE Awards

19 Jun , 2024

Analog Devices’ newest semiconductor fabrication plant which was built in collaboration with Sisk & Sons has won the highly coveted ‘Project of the Year’ Award at the Irish Construction Excellence (ICE) Awards.

The ICE Awards celebrate excellence and best practices across the construction industry, showcasing achievements in various disciplines, including architectural and engineering design, as well as project execution. Analog Devices was also nominated in the Industrial Project category for projects over €20 million.

In 2023, Analog Devices, a global leader in semiconductor technology, announced a significant €630 million investment in a new state-of-the-art 45,000 sq-ft Research & Development and manufacturing facility at its Raheen campus in Limerick. This facility is set to triple the company’s European wafer production capacity and significantly boost employment in the mid-west region of Ireland, creating 600 new jobs, adding to ADI’s existing 1,500 employees in Ireland and 3,100 employees across Europe.

The Project, which aimed to increase wafer production by 350%, involved numerous sub-projects, some more challenging than others, including:

  • Fitting out 1,400m² of unoccupied fallow space to Class 10 (ISO 4) and Class 100 (ISO 5) cleanrooms.
  • Converting 1,000m² of office and administration areas to Class 100 (ISO 5) cleanrooms.
  • Upgrading plant facilities, including chillers and cooling towers.
  • Retrofitting 650m² of existing production cleanrooms to Class 100.
  • Constructing a new RODI building, with an extension to the PH correction facility.
  • Installing over 200 new high-precision tools for producing 60-nanometer semiconductor chips.

Niall Dillon, Managing Director, Global Manufacturing and Corporate Facilities, Analog Devices said, “Taking home the top prize is wonderful recognition of the effort that the team has put into the project over the last couple of years.”

2024 also marks the 40-year ongoing relationship between Sisk and Analog Devices in Limerick. Sisk has been an integral partner in all onsite developments, from concept design to tool installation and commissioning, contributing to the continuous growth and innovation at Analog Devices.
