APNA’s Kevin Brady wins SCSI President’s Award

Kevin Brady of Andrew P. Nugent & Associates (APNA) was both surprised and delighted to receive the 2024 President’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) and the wider profession. 

The President’s Award honours exceptional leaders who have significantly contributed to advancing professionals in the built environment by volunteering for various projects, reports and events. This Award is the highest honour bestowed upon an individual by the SCSI and is decided solely at the discretion of the President, who is currently Kevin Hollingsworth. 

A native of Kildare but living in Dublin for many years, Kevin Brady MSCSI MRICS has been heavily involved with the SCSI for nearly two decades.  He has served as the chair of his Professional Group Committee, led the working group on the House Rebuild Costs and Calculator, Tender Price Index, played a leading role in the publishing of the Real Cost of Housing Report, Defective Concrete Block report to the benefit of affected families and Government, and much more. 

The 39-year-old was thanked for the many years he has given of his time and talents to furthering the profession and enriching the lives of his fellow members at the SCSI Surveying Excellence Awards which took place in Croke Park on November 20 last. The Awards highlight and recognise the contribution of surveying professionals to every stage of the life cycle of buildings. Working across the land, construction and property sectors, SCSI members either individually or collaboratively work to improve the natural and built environment. 

The Surveying Excellence Awards are a marker of the highest industry standards and best practices, and celebrate surveyors’ excellence, continued learning, sustainable innovations, and embracing technology to enhance the built environment. The other Awards categories are – Sustainable Champion Award; Elevate Award – Championing Women in Surveying; The Emerging Leader Award; Community Development Award; Best Integrated Approach to a Project Award; Innovation Award; Undergraduate Dissertation Award; and Postgraduate Award. 

Becoming a member of the SCSI means you have achieved the regulated high professional standard and are competent in all areas of your work in the property, land and construction industry. You are gaining a valuable professional qualification in addition to your academic qualification and an elite professional standing within the industry. 

“I’m absolutely delighted, it was a nice surprise to get,” the President’s Award winner modestly reflects. 

“Even just to be considered was an honour. It means a lot, especially as everything is done on a voluntary basis and in my own time. My involvement with the SCSI has been 110% since joining as a young surveyor in 2006/07. I served two years as chair of the Quantity Surveying Professional Group and have been involved in the publication of several reports, some recurring every six months. 

“It’s a huge privilege to be honoured in this way.” 

Kevin joined Andrew P. Nugent & Associates (APNA) as a graduate Quantity Surveyor in 2006 before becoming a director in 2016. The other directors are Andrew Nugent (managing director) and Damien Conway. With offices in Lower Kimmage Road, Dublin 6W, APNA is an established, progressive firm of Chartered Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, Procurement and Construction Consultants. Andrew Nugent set up the practice in 1993. Having initially offered Quantity Surveying services, it has evolved into other areas such as Project Management, Procurement Consultancy, and Carbon & Life Cycle Costing Assessments. 

“We are a professional and experienced team of Chartered Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, Building Cost Managers and Procurement Consultants working for clients in both the public and private sectors,” Kevin explains. 

“It is a testament to Andrew and the entire team to have got to where we are today, having grown through both the recession and Covid-19 pandemic. Our clients include the HSE, Department of Education, approved housing bodies, third level universities, financial institutes, critical infrastructure and aviation to name but a few. We specialise in medium-to-large scale commercial projects.”
