Originally from Drimnagh in Dublin, Aaron moved to Blessington 22 years ago where he has earned an enviable reputation in the local construction scene. As well as being a carpenter and bricklayer by trade, he holds a degree in Project Management which he obtained from IT Carlow (now SETU) during the dark days of the recession.
“It was a good time to upskill because things were very quiet when I set up the business. On the flip side, building materials were much cheaper. Everything has gone up 200% since then,” recalls Aaron, whose wife Catherine is also a director of the company.
“Thankfully, we’re a lot busier now and have plenty going on. Most of our work is referral-based from architects. I’ll always be grateful to Ger Kelly Architectural Services in Blessington for the role they played in getting our name out there in the local area. It’s always a bonus when you don’t have to travel too far for jobs.”

“We work together with architects, interior designers and structural engineers on a day-to-day basis to deliver quality building standards,” Aaron says.
“People who know me know that I’m very fussy when it comes to finishes. I will put in the extra time and effort to get them right. Like any other business, you’re only as good as your last job. My priority is to ensure that the client is 100% happy and to make sure the build is as stress-free as possible for them. We’re always willing to go the extra mile.”
AWG Building Contractors boasts an impressive portfolio which continues to grow by the week. Current residential projects include a high spec’ three-bed new build with garage in Lacken with panoramic views of the Blessington Lakes, a renovation in Blessington and a flat roof extension in Sallins. On the commercial side, the contractor has carried out a number of office and veterinary hospital fitouts, including four for Highfield Vets in Naas, Dunboyne, Blessington and Kilcock. The split between residential and commercial works is 70/30.

“We’d be nothing without our staff and subcontractors,” the affable managing director stresses.
“It took me a while to get the right lads, but I have them now and I’m very happy with them. They can turn their hand to anything. We also enjoy an excellent working relationship with our subcontractors. It’s a real team effort.”
