Breffni Electrical – creating standards

11 Feb , 2022

Breffni Electrical (DBA Breffni Electrical Ltd) provides a full range of electrical and specialist services to domestic, commercial and industrial customers across Ireland. Since its inception in 2013, the Belturbet, Co. Cavan-based company has grown to employ over 30 staff and has established itself as a leading provider of electrical contracting and maintenance services.

Founder and managing director Damien O’Reilly has played a key role in the company’s success to date. A strong emphasis on training and upskilling, coupled with improving the scale and complexity of its projects, and improving its procedures, ensures Breffni Electrical continues to go from strength to strength.

Year on year, the contractor has developed an outstanding reputation for the safe delivery of high-end industrial projects on time, on budget and to an exceptional standard. Breffni Electrical is a member of RECI (Register of Electrical Contractors of Ireland), thus ensuring high standards and accountability on every project.

“I had worked for a local electrical contractor for nine years before deciding to go out on my own. I set up the business in 2013 and it became a limited company the following year,” Damien explains.

“From the very beginning, our focus has been on our people, projects and procedures. Health & Safety is at the core of what we do, and never more so than in this COVID-19 age. We put a big focus on upskilling and training which we see as not just an investment in the business, but also in our employees. The transition from apprentices to qualified electricians is very high in the company. My first apprentice Alan Brady and I set the standard which everyone else adheres to.

“When I take on an apprentice, I take on someone who has the potential to go all the way. The biggest thing anyone can gain from an apprenticeship is what they learn. We always have an opening for an apprentice with a passion for electrical contracting or who is looking for a fresh start,” continues the former Cavan footballer, who currently has an array of openings for all grades of electricians, quantity surveyors and electrical estimators.

Breffni Electrical’s reputation for efficiency, reliability and keen pricing has resulted in a strong demand for its services nationwide and beyond. The company has many long-term clients who use its services time and again.

“We started off working on one-off house builds before progressing to housing developments,” Damien says.

“We’ve since branched into other sectors such as industrial, commercial, data centres, pharmaceutical, education and healthcare. We also have a maintenance division for our regular customers. We regularly partner with architects, engineers and consultants who value high-quality work.

“Word of mouth, repeat business, value-for-money and maintaining high standards are huge in our book. We value every customer, regardless of their size. We treat everyone the same.”

From handling all kinds of electrical installations to fixing faults in the electrical systems, Breffni Electrical caters for all your domestic needs. Damien and his team install fire alarms, LED lighting, electrical appliances and can even carry out a full inspection of the condition of all electrical installations in your property if required. They also offer professional advice, electrical repairs and maintenance services.

The Cavan firm has carried out a variety of commercial projects, ranging from small office fit-outs, bars and restaurants to large retail chains, and often in live environments. With experience in modern lighting and more energy-efficient lighting, it can recommend ways to light your premises in a cost-effective manner.

In addition, Breffni Electrical is a residential and commercial electric vehicle (EV) charger specialist. The company supplies and installs a range of EV charger units to suit individual requirements. From a single wall-mounted standalone unit to a full network of intelligent EV chargers, it can provide your required solution.

When it comes to industrial projects, Breffni Electrical can install factory and warehouse fitouts, surge protections as well as carrying out upgrades to switchboards and lighting. The company also installs high-quality, reliable security systems and provides a design and build service which sees its electrical engineers work with you to scope and build smart electrical designs for your project, with innovation, new technologies and thought leadership at the forefront.

As part of its engagement, Breffni Electrical adopts a collaborative approach to complete system designs, including a coordinated approach to the installation of all systems. This means it often partners with electrical consultants and specialists to ensure full end-to-end and comprehensive electrical solutions, with the client end goal and needs in mind at all times.

Breffni Electrical’s maintenance teams ensure your electrical environment is in safe hands with regular ongoing check-ups and emergency electrical callouts if and when you need them. The contractor is also a leading PV solar panel provider.

Like most Cavan people, Damien loves his football. Hailing from a family steeped in the GAA, he has represented his club and county at every level, and continues to line out for beloved Belturbet in spite of undergoing two cruciate ligament operations. He played wing forward for Cavan when they climbed from Division 3 to 1 of the National League and also captained them on a number of occasions.

Damien and the rest of the Breffni Electrical team would like to take this opportunity to thank their customers and suppliers for their continued support.
