Brian Healy are lighting up the future

22 Feb , 2017

Brian Healy Electrical was established 12 years ago as a one man operation, but these days Brian has 30 employees and his customer base covers the whole of Ireland.

Located in Newport, Co Tipperary, this electrical contracting company has worked all over the country in a vast range of projects.

Over the years, Brian and his staff built up a reputation for providing a reliable, efficient and competitively priced service to an ever increasing customer base. Repeat Business and long standing working relationships with many contractors are the foundation and cornerstone on which the company has been built.

“We’ve been steady for the past number years and definitely there has been an upturn in work over the past year or two,” stated the company director.

Brian revealed that the company have been predominantly engaged in public sector contracts in recent years and are currently focused on a number of school developments.

“We would do a lot of industrial and commercial work, while we have also worked on a number of school projects in the likes of Edenderry, Tullamore, Patrickswell and St Angeles School in Cork which has been named as one of the top 30 building projects in the world in 2016.

Sixteen years in the making, the mammoth €9.2m redevelopment of the historic St Angela’s College campus in the spiritual heart of Cork city, is in the running for the People’s Choice award in the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland’s (RIAI) Irish Architecture Awards — Irish architecture’s equivalent of the Oscars.

But the innovative design, described by the influential London-based Architectural Review magazine as “liberating and uplifting”, is also one of just two Irish projects selected by the Royal Institute of British Architects as amongst its 30 incredible buildings from around the world this year. It has been shortlisted for its international award which is due to be announced later this month.

“It is great to be involved in such an esteemed project and we are delighted to be chosen as the main electrical contractor for the development.”

Brian added that they continue to work for many of the same firms that have been working with them since the start.

“We would get a lot of repeat business and I suppose that’s a sign that we are doing something right. We have built a great rapport with businesses over the years, maintaining a solid working relationship with many contractors and clients, this is something that we are eager to continue, as well as developing new relationships in the future. Running any business is difficult you have to be careful with the decisions that you make. In saying that you can’t be over-cautious and you have to take a chance at times.”

Brian admitted that the company has been allowed grow in more recent times as the last recession is well and truly gone now.

“We have been relatively fortunate in recent years that we have been able to steadily grow the business without too much risk attached, our staff maintain good working relationships with the companies we are working with and it makes all the difference. We started during the recession and managed to come through it. My first big job was in St Munchin’s College in Limerick and we have built from there.”

Brian is not one to rest on his laurels as the company is always actively seeking new opportunities, and striving to develop and grow the business, but he always maintains the one motto.

“Irrespective of the scale or value of the contract every customer is treated with the same respect. You can’t turn your back on anyone and that is something we have always focused on.”

Brian added that to ensure that the dynamic of the company stays the same, they make sure to take on apprentices on a yearly basis.

“We would offer apprenticeships every year. During the recession it was difficult to find apprentices as with the downturn the construction sector was a no go area, thankfully however, there is an uplift in interest in apprenticeships and that is good news as they are an important part of any contracting business. We’re fortunate to have a very good and loyal staff.
