Operating from Castleblayney for over 40 years, Broomfield Construction Ltd has built an enviable reputation as a multi-disciplined main contractor and a trusted construction partner in the healthcare, education and local authority sectors.
The Co. Monaghan-based contractor, which directly employs over 35 people from the local area, was set up in 1973 by Patrick Reilly, who remains involved as a director and continues to oversee the business development and construction management aspects of the company. His son Jason became managing director last year and recently led Broomfield to obtaining Safe T Cert Accreditation. Also a chartered member of the CIOB, Jason is keen to continue his and the company’s professional development.
Broomfield Construction’s team of highly qualified, skilled and experienced tradesmen consistently deliver quality buildings with particular attention to detail being paramount to the firm’s success. Close communication and collaboration with clients and other project stakeholders is another strong point as the business continues to bring contracts in under budget and on time.
Broomfield Construction has a wealth of experience in the development of schools, community centres, resource centres and medical centres for both government and private bodies. It also has vast expertise in the construction of food processing, factory and pharmaceutical plants, shopping centres – some with carparks – as well as in the renovation of both listed and non-listed projects. In addition, Broomfield has completed many civil works projects, including sewerage treatment and water plants, and major and local roads.

The quality of Broomfield’s work is reflected in its continuing growth in an increasingly competitive market, and the portfolio of projects over the past four decades are testament to this quality. In 2016, the firm had a turnover of in excess of €6 million.
“Last year was different in that our work in the private and public sectors was evenly divided,” director and commercial manager Colm O’Reilly explains.
“For the previous five years or so, public contracts had accounted for 75 per cent of our business. There was a big surge in residential, industrial and retail work last year which looks set to continue this year. We have the knowledge and experience to take on any job. We offer a complete service and have an outstanding reputation within the Irish construction industry. We are able to stand over all of our work.”
Broomfield Construction has successfully completed numerous projects in the residential, commercial, educational, sports & leisure, healthcare, industrial and listed buildings sector. One of its biggest contracts at present involves the complete refurbishment of St. Oliver’s Nursing Home in Dundalk over five phases. This contract is valued at €4.5 million. Broomfield was also the main contractor on the construction of a new state-of-the-art accident and emergency unit at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan. Another recent contract undertaken for the HSE was the refurbishment of St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Trim at a cost of €1.3 million.
Broomfield staff have also been busy carrying out refurbishments at three medical centres in Dublin located in Collins’ Avenue, Raheny and Ballyfermot. Closer to home, the company is the main contractor on a €650,000 office extension at Corby Rock Mill in Monaghan, while recent educational projects have been undertaken at The Naul and Killygarry Primary Schools, which were valued at €200,000 and €350,000 respectively.
