Building better since 2007

12 Dec , 2024

Toomey Building Services Ltd is a well-established general contracting firm in Donard, Co. Wicklow which has earned an enviable reputation for quality construction.

Specialising in new builds, extensions and renovations, Toomey Building Services continues to go from strength to strength after 17 years in business. The company was founded by Colm Toomey who initially provided a roofing service before offering a wider range of services.

“As a roofer by trade, I set up Toomey Building Services in 2007 as a roofing company,” he explains.

“But over time, it evolved into a general contracting business. We’ve come through some tough times, including the recession and the Covid-19 pandemic, to establish ourselves as a leading builder in the Wicklow and Kildare area. I have over 20 years’ experience in the sector. No job is too big or too small.”

Superior workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and an unwavering commitment to Health & Safety and working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of Toomey Building Services. From concept to completion, Colm and his team are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs and to the highest standard.

Whether your next project is a new build, renovation or extension, Toomey Building Services’ one-stop shop approach will ensure that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Co. Wicklow contractor’s reputation for high quality construction and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from design teams and scores of satisfied customers.

By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with its subcontractors, engineers and architects, and using only the very best building products, Toomey Building Services is able to deliver the highest quality construction.

Colm is joined in the business by his wife Rosaleen and two direct employees, who are supported and supplemented by the same tried and trusted subcontractors, including Liam Kennedy Plastering, Ronan Quine Heating & Plumbing, Mervyn O’Neill Groundworks, Dufflec Electrical and Duffy Sludge Disposal, which are run by Colm’s brothers-in-law Philip and Derek Duffy respectively.

Quinn’s of Baltinglass, Wood Industries, Grace Sawmills, Keatley Concrete and Kilsaran are Colm’s main suppliers, while he also collaborates with Mark Byrne Engineering Services (Kilcullen) and Ger Kelly Architects (Kilbride) on many projects.

“We only build quality buildings which not only meet, but exceed our clients’ expectations,” he proudly says.

“We work closely with a carefully selected team of experienced subcontractors and suppliers to make sure your project is finished to the highest standard. We involve our clients in every phase of the build, always taking on board what they have to say and being extremely mindful of the fact that it’s one of the biggest investments that they will ever make. We guarantee complete customer satisfaction on every job we undertake.”

Colm adds: “We have a great team of skilled tradespeople who I cannot praise enough. We’d be nothing without them. I’m also grateful for the support of Rosaleen who looks after all the office work for me.”

A lifelong involvement in the GAA has stood Colm in good stead from a business point of view. As a former Donard/Glen and Wicklow footballer, he has built up a network of contacts and has found a niche in building / renovating GAA clubhouses.

“Most of the people I deal with are involved in the GAA like myself,” notes Colm, whose family owns Toomey’s Bar in Donard, which is located in the heart of the Glen of Imaal.

“It’s amazing the amount of contacts you make through the GAA. It has led to us carrying out clubhouse refurbishments for Dunlavin and Kiltegan, and a new build for Kilbride GAA club near Blessington. We’re currently working on Phase 1 of their new state-of-the-art clubhouse which will consist of dressing-rooms, a physio room and toilets.

“I have an insight into GAA committees and how they can secure Sports Capital grants through my seven years as chairman of Donard/Glen. I can offer advice to committees and point them in the right direction.”

Some of Toomey Building Services’ other current / recent projects include new house builds in Baltinglass and Rathcoffey as well as extensions to homes in Donard and Stratford. “We remodelled a large 1960s house in Donard and brought another house in Stratford up to an ‘A’ energy rating. We also finished the house in Donard with a zinc roof surrounded by cedar cladding. We always have something to keep us busy.”

Passionate about construction, the affable Wicklow man would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients, suppliers and design teams for their continued support as well as his staff and subcontractors for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
