Woods PS (Product Services) provides comprehensive Mechanical & Electrical Design Services and Site Project Management to a wide range of clients in both the private and public sectors.
Based in Corbally, Limerick, this exceptional building services engineering firm keeps your needs and expectations to the forefront of every decision. Woods PS has earned an enviable reputation for its Electrical, Mechanical and IT Design Services, specialising in cost engineering, while complying with stringent solutions to meet its client’s high expectations. The company provides services to the following sectors: pharmaceutical, data centres, schools, nursing homes, call centres, primary care centres, equine industry, agri food, stadium and large domestic.
Woods PS was established by Norman Woods in 2003 as a design and contracting specialist, but has been focusing solely on the former since 2013. The company employs a 10-strong team and continues to go from strength to strength.
“I’ve been in the business since 2000,” explains Norman, who is a building services engineer by profession.
“We were initially involved in design and contracting but, after the recession, decided to concentrate on design only as the risk factor is substantially less. After years of working hands-on within the construction sector, we also saw an opening for a company that has the experience and practical knowledge that can be applied to the building services industry.
“We’re growing all the time and have plenty of work ahead of us at the moment.”
Woods PS is committed to providing Mechanical & Engineering Design Services that are responsive to clients’ needs in an innovative, cost-effective, professional and quality manner. The company collaborates with the design team, contractors and clients in relation to the execution of complicated and complex projects. With Building Services Design, it takes projects from initial consultation and design right through to specification and tender.
Furthermore, Woods PS can assist architects and building planners with public lighting designs to ensure compliance and planning applications.
“As building services engineers, we design cost-effective and energy-efficient systems for building services such as lighting, heating, air conditioning and telecommunications,” the affable managing director continues.
“Our specialities are project management, renewable technologies, design cost and implementation of electro-mechanical services, heat pumps (air and ground source) and cost engineering to specific budgets. One of our strengths is our knowledge of ‘part L’, ‘part F’ and the compliance of same, while staying within budgets and using the latest renewable technologies.”
The Limerick-based concern has worked on many complex and challenging projects nationwide, and boasts an impressive client-base that ranges from Amazon, Stryker and Baxter to Coolmore Stud, Conack Construction, Flynn Construction, Tiernan Properties, HSE, ETB and Department of Education. It also enjoys an excellent working relationship with leading architects and engineers such as Arnold Leahy Architects, Thompson’s, Henry J Lyons, McKenna Consulting Engineers, Darragh Quinn Architects and LHA Architecture.
“We value these relationships and are consistently working towards maintaining and developing them,” Norman stresses.
“We’re currently engaged in a number of projects, including five primary care centres for the HSE and 50 rapid build schools for the Department of Education. One of our most high-profile clients is Coolmore Stud who we’ve provided design services to, from hyperbaric oxygen therapy chambers to treadmills for their racehorses.”
One of Woods PS’s most interesting and exciting projects is currently taking place in Shannon where it’s involved in designing the infrastructure for Jaguar Land Rover’s new research hub and testing site for self-drive cars which is being overseen by FMCI (Future Mobility Campus Ireland). The site is a collaborative testbed for AV technology and includes 12km of public road with built-in sensors, smart junctions, connected roads, autonomous parking and electric vehicle (EV) charging. It allows for real-world testing of AVs by sharing the streets with cars, pedestrians and cyclists.
The site also links to a 450km stretch of connected motorway and a managed air traffic corridor for uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) from Shannon Airport along the Shannon Estuary.
Norman is full of praise for his staff who have played a key role in the company’s success to date.
“Our people are our greatest asset. Our team of building services engineers, mechanical engineers and everyone else have made Woods PS the thriving business it is today. They take great pride in their work and are second to none at what they do. You need to have good people around you and I’m very fortunate in that regard.
“It’s a real team effort.”
Woods PS would like to take this opportunity to thank its clients and suppliers as well as the engineers, architects and planners it collaborates with for their continued support.
