Established in 2008, Magan Construction are one of Ireland’s leading turnkey contractors, a fact recognised by their inclusion on the shortlist for the 2020 Irish Construction Industry Awards which take place in the Citywest Hotel, Dublin on Friday, October 16 next and for winning the “Excellence in Business Construction Services Award 2020” in the Public Sector Awards. Most recently they have completed the stunning refurbishment on the Savoy Hotel, Limerick with leading interior designer Tullio Orlandi.
Having just completed a full company rebrand, including a new website, managing director, Richard Crone says: “We felt it was time for our brand to reflect the quality of work we deliver and our growth within the industry.”

Westmeath-based firm are specialist contractors in turnkey fitout solutions for projects across the commercial, industrial, retail, hospitality, educational and health sectors. As retail fitout experts, they have delivered projects for Sketchers Ireland, 53 Degrees North and Xtishoes Ireland and Aeropostale to name but a few.
Magan Construction has been nominated for the upcoming Irish Construction Industry Awards under the ‘Retail Project of the Year’ category. Through their dedication and continued hard work, delivering leading edge, innovative projects, their Robotics & Drives Training Centre project in Mullingar made the shortlist alongside the Frascati Centre, Rocks Jewellers and Shankill, Dublin Neighbourhood Centre.
The prestigious awards recognises, encourages and celebrates original and innovative contractors, businesses, teams, consultants and projects that demonstrate excellence in the built environment. The gala annual awards ceremony is attended by hundreds of leading industry figures with the list of past winners being a who’s who of Ireland’s construction industry.
“We’re delighted with the nomination,” enthuses Magan Construction managing director, Richard Crone. “We were given poetic license on the fitout of the Robotics & Drives project by its directors, Kenand Sharon McNevin and Stephen Nolan (who is Richard’s first cousin), and they were great to be up for an award like this. We completed the fit out for Ireland’s first Aeropostale store in the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre in 2015 and felt that should have got an award. Hopefully we’ll have better luck with this one.”
As thought leaders in robotic innovation, Robotics & Drives required a space to reflect their innovative and technical product. Creating a unique and vibrant entrance foyer for such a dynamic company was a key area of this turnkey project fitout. The scope of works included the complete strip-out and refurbishment of a 2,100m2 unit and the construction of a new 400m2 workshop.
The project was completed on time (March-November 2019) and within budget, with Magan Construction providing full turnkey construction and interior fitout services.
With a team of highly-skilled experts, there is no retail or commercial project that Magan Construction cannot deliver. “We’re a one-stop shop for all your fitout requirements,” Richard notes.
“We have seven full-time staff who are complemented by a great crew of sub- contractors. We use the same contractors for every project so we can guarantee consistency of service. It’s a real team effort from everyone. We can do anything that a client requires, including full design and build. We have delivered a variety of projects across a range of sectors and have many long-standing clients.” Sketchers Ireland are one of Magan Construction’s most loyal customers. “We have fitted out 14 of their stores, with Shop Street in Galway being the most recent. 53 Degrees North and Xtishoes are two other high street stores we do a lot of work for and we’re currently fitting out a new store for Asics on Dublin’s O’Connell Street where the old Clarks shoe shop used to be,” Richard adds.
Another of Magan Construction’s current projects is at The Savoy Hotel in Limerick which reopened their doors in July. They are carrying out a full refurbishment to the hotel library, bar and entrance foyer, working alongside the renowned interior designer Tullio Orlandi to deliver this bespoke project for their client.
Last year, Magan completed a full fitout of the 18,000 sq. ft. Alex Findlater & Co Food and Wine Hall in O’Connell Street, Limerick. It is located on the ground floor of The George Hotel, which is part of the Savoy Group collection in the heart of the city’s shopping and restaurant quarter.
The Food and Wine Hall includes Bar Alexa, an upmarket area, The Grill Room and a fantastic selection of over 300 wines from across the globe showcased at the handsome purpose built wine theatre.
Another noteworthy project which Magan recently completed was for KCI – Acelity in Athlone. Magan delivered a bespoke inhouse stage and demo area, including full AV for Acelity’s Irish team. This unique space was created in order to deliver in-house meetings and events to their team both in Ireland and internationally.
Magan pride themselves on being a leading supplier of cleanrooms and cleanroom solutions, offering end-to-end cleanroom installation solutions which span concept through cleanroom construction to commissioning, fitout and support. Their cleanroom fitout can include the supply of customised cleanroom furniture developed to meet the clients’ particular needs.
Magan’s services were also sought during the recent Covid-19 crisis when it delivered an emergency project at Connolly Hospital in Dublin. The Westmeath contractor was specified to carry out the full refurbishment of a new Covid-19 facility to increase the hospital’s capacity to care for patients who had contracted the coronavirus.
“We worked through the national lockdown to deliver a 22-bed emergency unit at Connolly Hospital. It kept us busy at a time when most building contractors weren’t permitted to operate,” Richard says.
The innovative company was awarded the “Excellence in Business Construction Services Award 2020” at the Public Sector Awards for the delivery of this project during a time of upheaval.
Magan Construction evolved from DMC Electrical, which was an electrical contracting company headed up by Richard’s father Martin. “We were primarily electrical contractors up to 2008 when we decided to diversify. That’s when Magan Construction was born and my father has remained involved in a consultancy capacity. The name ‘Magan’ comes from a place in the Middle East where we lived for three years. We continue to be a family-run business,” the affable managing director explains.
