Clodagh Construction celebrates 20 years

9 Jan , 2026

Clodagh Construction Ltd is an exceptional general building contracting firm based in Rathgormack, Co. Waterford which is celebrating 20 years in business. Specialising in residential, commercial, educational and conservation projects, the company has earned an enviable reputation for top-quality work.

Founded in 2005 by Eoin Hunt, Clodagh Construction – which takes its name from a local river – has a proven track record of successful developments across a wide range of sectors. Eoin and his small but dedicated team are supported by the same tried and trusted subcontractors who include Finbarr Crotty Electrical, Stephen Rockett of Rockett Decorating, James Hayes Carpentry, Deise Plastering, block-layer Timmy Curran, Curralane Plumbing & Heating (Jack Nugent) and DFL Joinery.

Clodagh Construction’s main suppliers are Flynn’s Hardware in Dungarvan, Chadwicks in Waterford and Topline Cleary in Carrick-on-Suir, while the architects it collaborates with on a regular basis include Mary Harrington Architects in Kilmeaden, James Reynolds Architects in Waterford, MDP + Partners in Waterford, E-Project Chartered Architects in Dungarvan and Ailtirí in Clonmel.

“We’ve never been as busy,” Eoin reports.

“We’re working on between 12 and 14 live projects, including five school projects in an area between Dungarvan, New Ross and Clonmel. Whereas school projects such as classroom extensions, summer works, emergency works and window replacements used to account for up to 80% of our business, we’re now concentrating more on renovations and new private one-off house builds.

“We’re carrying out a lot of refurbishments under the Repair and Leasing Scheme which is aimed at bringing vacant properties such as pubs in need of repair back into use for social housing. It’s a scheme that has opened up doors for builders and developers, while helping out with the housing crisis.

“We’re also doing a fair bit of Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant work. You can get up to €50,000 to renovate a vacant property and up to €70,000 if the property is derelict which a lot of people are availing of.

“Furthermore, we undertake two or three one-off new house builds every year. Our homes are built to last, are energy efficient and are designed to the client’s exact specifications.

“Similar to everyone else involved in construction, the unprecedented cost of building materials continues to be a big issue for us and our clients, while a shortage of skilled labour is the other major issue affecting the industry at the moment.

“We’re delighted to be celebrating 20 years in business. It’s a great milestone to reach in such a tough industry.

“I used to do a lot of work in Dublin, but now concentrate on Waterford, Kilkenny and South Tipperary, which are on my doorstep. When you have a young family, your priorities change,” adds Eoin, who is married to Michelle and has two boys, Colin (nine) and Ross (seven).

Outstanding workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of Clodagh Construction. Health & Safety is also a top priority. From concept to completion, Eoin and his team are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs, and that there are no hidden or extra costs involved.

Whether your next project is a new build, extension or renovation, Clodagh Construction’s one-stop shop approach will ensure that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Co. Waterford contractor’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from design teams and scores of satisfied clients.

By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with its architects, and using only the very best building products, this fully insured contractor is able to deliver the highest quality construction to its clients.

No job is too big or too small for Clodagh Construction which recently became the new sponsor of the Rathgormack senior football team who are seeking a three-in-a-row of county championships this year. The sponsorship launch took place at the Comeragh Amenity Area in late April. A skills competition was held for the club’s U10 and U12 players to mark the occasion.

“We’re both proud and delighted to support the Rathgormack senior footballers in their quest for the three-in-a-row. They’re a fine team who only lost to Dr Crokes of Kerry by a point in last year’s Munster club semi-final. It’s great to be in a position to be able to sponsor them, especially with my boys playing for the U9s and U8s.

“Rathgormack is the football end of the parish and Clonea is the hurling. The two go hand-in-hand with most of the same players lining out for both teams.”

Clodagh Construction’s most high-profile conservation project to date was Pembrokestown Coach House in Butlerstown. It was awarded the CMG (Construction Media Group) prize for Building of the Year Conservation & Heritage in 2017, and was also shortlisted for the Public Choice Vote in the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland Awards.

The company also carried out works over two phases on the St Patrick’s Gateway Centre which is a beautiful medieval church located within Waterford city’s Norman Walls. It is a historic landmark, place of worship and community all in one dating back to 1720.

As his company continues to go from strength to strength, the affable Waterford man would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients, suppliers and designers for their support as well as his staff and subcontractors for their hard work, dedication and expertise.

Here’s to the next 20 years!
