Specialising in private residential new builds, extensions and renovations, John Brosnan Construction Ltd is a highly-regarded building contracting firm with a proven track record for delivering quality work.
Established in Knocknagree, Mallow, Co. Cork in 2016, the company is fronted by third-generation builder John Brosnan who takes great pride in every project he undertakes. A carpenter by trade, John is committed to building on his family’s rich construction heritage. Both his father Seamus and late grandfather Michael were renowned builders who inspired him to follow in their footsteps.
“The Brosnan name has been around for a long time. My father only recently retired after 50 years in the trade. He built a lot of private houses in Killarney and had a great reputation which is something I’d like to uphold,” John says.
Outstanding workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of John Brosnan Construction. Health & Safety is at the core of the business, and never more so than since the Covid-19 pandemic. From concept to completion, John and his team are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs, and that there are no hidden or extra costs involved.
Whether your next project is a new build, refurbishment, retrofit or extension, John Brosnan’s Construction’s one-stop shop approach will ensure that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The north Co. Cork contractor’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from architects, engineers and satisfied clients.
By employing highly-skilled people, collaborating with clients’ design teams and project managers, and using only the very best building products, this fully-insured contractor is able to deliver construction projects of the highest standards.
John’s small but dedicated team of direct employees – which includes his brother Tim – are supported and supplemented by the same tried and trusted subcontractors. These include Mike Cronin (groundworks), Padraig Cronin (block-layer), Robert Falvey (plumber) and Kieran Hickey (electrician). His main suppliers are Burton’s Hardware in Kanturk, MD O’Shea & Sons in Killarney, O’Keeffe’s Homevalue Hardware in Rathmore, Paddy O’Keeffe’s in Gneeveguilla and Ducon Concrete in Kanturk.
Aeneas O’Leary (A O’Leary Architectural Design & Construction Services) in Rathmore, Reeks Consulting Engineers in Killarney and Gerald McCarthy Architects in Macroom are the architects / engineers he deals with on a regular basis.
“We enjoy an excellent working relationship with all of our customers, suppliers and design teams who have helped to make us the business we are today. While our main customer-base is along the Cork-Kerry border, we have built houses from Killorglin to Mallow. We will travel within reason and are always at the end of the phone to deal with any queries our customers may have.”
John Brosnan Construction builds an average of six-to-eight new private one-off homes a year which are typically 2,500 sq. ft. in size. “House sizes are getting bigger and bigger. They are also warmer and more energy-efficient than ever,” John says.
As a former player and current senior team sponsor, John is proud and delighted to be the main contractor on the new state-of-the-art Knocknagree GAA clubhouse development. The new clubhouse will consist of a community gym, dressing rooms, meeting room and kitchen along with public toilets.
To help fund the project, Knocknagree GAA are giving supporters the opportunity to purchase a brick with their family name inscribed on it to be enshrined in the club’s history. The ‘Wall of Heroes’ will be located in the main corridor of the building. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of something special and help the club continue to thrive as an integral part of the community.
Knocknagree are also going from strength to strength on the field of play. The Duhallow side won the All-Ireland Club Football Championship in 2018 and are now operating at senior ‘A’ level, which is just one level below the top-flight in Cork. Their current wellbeing is reflected in them having three players – Daniel O’Mahony, Eoghan McSweeney and Pa Doyle – on the Cork senior football panel.
“It’s a great club which we are proud to support,” enthuses John, who welcomes the stabilising of building material costs which had soared in the wake of the pandemic and the outbreak of war in Ukraine.
The affable builder would like to take this opportunity to thank his wife Yvonne and children Elaina (16), Fia (14) and Evan (10) for their unwavering support. He is also grateful to his clients, suppliers and engineers / architects for their continued support and to his top-class team for their hard work and expertise.
