Debcon Construction – builders of distinction

19 Jun , 2023

Debcon Construction Ltd is a well-established general building contractor specialising in educational, industrial and commercial projects. The Bagenalstown, Co. Carlow-based company takes its name from the first name initials of brothers Donny, Eamonn and Brian Nolan, who founded it almost 20 years ago.

A family-run business with a hands-on approach and highly-skilled workforce, Debcon has earned an enviable reputation for delivering projects to the highest standards, specification and quality. Its client list includes the Department of Education & Skills, HSE, Office of Public Works, local authorities as well as a number of private and individual clients. Debcon is a sister company of ProDig Attachments which manufactures a wide range of quality engineered products for the agricultural sector.

“We established Debcon in 2004 and set up Prodig a few years later. Donny and Eamonn devote most of their time to Prodig these days. It’s the bigger of the two companies, employing 32 compared to 14 in Debcon,” Brian explains.

Outstanding workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of Debcon Construction. Health & Safety is at the core of the business, and never more so since the Covid-19 pandemic. From concept to completion, the Debcon team is with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs, and that there are no hidden or extra costs involved.

Whether your next project is an extension or new build, Debcon’s one-stop shop approach will ensure that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Co. Carlow contractor’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from design teams and scores of satisfied clients.

By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with its engineers and architects, and using only the very best building products, this fully insured family business is able to deliver the highest quality construction to its clients. Debcon’s direct employees comprises carpenters, block-layers, machine operators and general operatives who are supported by the same tried and trusted sub-contractors, including Moroney Electrical, Blanchfield Heating Services and Chris Dowling Roofing.

Dan Morrissey Quarry Group in Bennekerry, Co. Carlow, Doyle’s Topline Hardware in Carlow, Connolly’s Topline Hardware in Bagenalstown and DFL Fitouts & Joinery in Waterford are Debcon’s main suppliers, while McLoughlin Architects in Naas, EPDM in Kilkenny, Peter Bolger Consulting in Bagenalstown and Galileo Mechanical Consulting in Celbridge are just some of the architects / engineers / quantity surveyors it regularly collaborates with.

“We enjoy an excellent relationship with our sub-contractors, suppliers and design teams. It’s a real team effort. We also have our own plant and machinery to carry out groundworks and civil works,” Brian says.

Debcon has carved a niche for itself in the educational sector since undertaking its first project for the Department of Education in 2008. “We started with a small extension to our local national school in Newtown and haven’t looked back since. We stick to the south-east when it comes to tendering for school projects. Between that and the other building works we carry out in our area, there is enough to keep us busy.”

Debcon recently commenced a two-year project at Ballyconnell National School in Tullow, Co. Carlow. The first phase will see the completion of a four-classroom two-storey extension. The second phase will include the refurbishment and extension of an existing wing, while the third phase will consist of external works, including a new car park, set-down area and basketball court.

The company is also currently carrying out extensions to Stoneyford National School in Co. Kilkenny and Knockananna National School in Co. Wicklow. It recently completed extension works at Tinryland National School in Co. Carlow which consisted of two mainstream classrooms, an ASD unit and an Astroturf area. Debcon’s portfolio also includes Ballon National School, Ballinkillen National School, Rathoe National, Drumphea National School and Presentation De La Salle, Bagenalstown (all in Co. Carlow) to name but a few.

Of course, Debcon’s expertise isn’t just confined to the educational sector. It is currently building a 2,500 sq. ft. one-off dwelling near Ballon and recently completed a 600 sq. m. industrial building for PB Machine Tech in Bagenalstown as well as a 4,000 sq. m. extension for Burnside Autocyl in Tullow. Both companies are involved in the manufacture of custom hydraulic cylinders for all types of mobile applications.

Looking to the future, Brian is hoping Debcon will continue to go from strength to strength by maintaining its high standards.

“There is a good bit of school extension work coming up for tendering so hopefully we can get some of that. Material costs and a shortage of skilled tradespeople are the biggest challenges facing the industry at the moment. We’ve got to meet those challenges head on and keep providing our clients with the high level of service they have come to expect from us.”

As its 20th anniversary approaches, the family business would like to take this opportunity to thank its clients, suppliers and designers for their continued support as well as its staff and sub-contractors for their hard work, dedication and skill.
