For its outstanding delivery of the Garretstown Beach Coastal Protection Works, Regan Construction was nominated for a 2018 Irish Construction Excellence Award in the Specialist Services Contract category. Building Ireland touched base with project manager John Maher to find out more.
For almost two decades, Regan Construction has been synonymous with excellence. So it was fitting that the company was shortlisted in this year’s prestigious Irish Construction Excellence Awards.
The main element of the Garretstown Beach Coastal Protection Works project was the construction of a revetment for approximately 60m west of the existing concrete retaining wall along Garretstown Beach. Also included in the scope of works was the construction of new public access steps to the beach.
The original project was delivered within budget and to programme. The use of the ECAB coast protection system is an innovative, sustainable and cost-effective solution to coastal erosion.

When a client comes to you with a brief, you try to provide an engineered solution to their exact requirements and to deliver that in a professional, cost-effective and timely manner.”

Alluding to the reasons for Regan Construction’s ongoing success over 19 years and counting, John notes: “Building up strong relationships with our clients has been key and having our own in-house plant, as well as the low turnover of staff. I’m here since ’03 myself and a lot of the core staff have been part of the team for a similar amount of time.”
This enables the consistent delivery of market-leading services. Little wonder Regan Construction was in the running at this year’s Construction Excellence Awards! “It was nice to be nominated in the first place and then to get through the initial stage and make the shortlist for the final was another boost for everybody associated with the company.”
Going forward, the plan for Regan Construction is to stick to the tried and trusted winning formula that has served them – and their clients! – so well since 1999: “It’ll be more of the same,” John concludes. “We’re going to continue providing a wide range of services across all sectors. In the short term, we’re expecting residential housebuilding and environmental work to be our busiest areas.”
