Durkin Bros Ltd has been built on the reputation and integrity of the Durkin family over the past 49 years. From humble beginnings, the AECI, RECI and Safe Electric certified company has grown to employ 20 staff directly and can employ a further 60 subcontractors at any one time. The contractor’s electricians are highly-skilled and creative people who take great pride in their work.

“The company was founded by my father Tommie and his brother Michael,” explains project manager and director Aiden Durkin.

“While Michael is now retired, Tommie is still involved as managing director. My brother Robert is a site foreman with the company and Michael’s son Barry is a long standing electrician with extensive knowledge of domestic installations. Being a family business, we’re able to offer our customers the personal touch that you don’t get from larger organisations. We’ll go the extra mile for them if we have to.

“We provide a professional, punctual and value-for-money service, and have a great team who are passionate about what they do. Our proven ability to complete projects on time and within budget is borne out by the large volume of repeat business we receive. No job is too big or too small.”

The Yeats County firm has carried out numerous substantial projects in the residential, commercial, industrial, retail, healthcare and educational sectors, and enjoys an excellent working relationship with some of the country’s leading construction firms.

More recently, Durkin Bros Ltd has completed projects at Culleens National School in Ballina, the AIM (Advancing Innovation in Manufacturing) Centre in Market Yard, Sligo and Castlerea Food Hub at the Castlerea Enterprise Centre.

“We were awarded the full electrical package, including solar PV panels, for Culleens National School which was a new build carried out by Coolsivna Construction,” Aiden says.

“The AIM Centre project involved the installation of 130 solar PV panels and a back-up battery system. Solar PV installations have become a big part of our business over the last 18 months or so. The AIM Centre, which was once Sligo’s fire station and the home of the long-gone Northwest Radio, was completely renovated by Joseph McMenamin & Sons.

“We also carried out the full electrical fitout of the new Food Hub in Castlerea in conjunction with Pat Loftus Construction for Roscommon County Council.”

Durkin Bros Ltd is also currently collaborating with Joseph McMenamin & Sons on improvements to the Knocknarea Arena in ATU Sligo. The scope of works includes LED and emergency lighting upgrades and a very large 200-panel Solar PV system.

Another current project sees Durkin Bros Ltd rewire 70 houses as part of Phase 3 of the Cranmore Regeneration Scheme for Sligo County Council. Kilcawley Construction is the main contractor on the project which involves the refurbishment and improvement of what is the largest housing estate in the west of Ireland. In addition, the longstanding business is engaged in a number of one-off residential new builds, including the largest one-off house it has ever been involved with in Swinford, Co. Mayo, which is being built by Brian Forcon Construction.

Health & Safety has always been paramount at Durkin Bros Ltd. The firm places a strong emphasis on Health & Safety and conducts its business with a safety-first policy.
