Based outside Kircubbin, Co Down,John Dynes & Son Builders Ltd is a family-run business which covers all aspects of construction working for its clients. Building Ireland touched base with one of the company directors Alanna Dynes to learn all about the business – from what it specialises in to the projects it has on-going at the moment.

Business is robust these days at John Dynes & Son Builders Ltd and the plan for the Dynes family and the rest of the team up in Kircubbin is to continue to grow and develop.

Established by John Dynes over 40 years ago, the company has since grown into a diverse contractor with experience in the Residential and Commercial sectors of the industry, carrying out projects  throughout Northern Ireland and priding itself on the variety of work it has delivered to date.

Building Ireland spoke with Alanna Dynes recently to find out more about this thriving company and its overall hopes going forward.

“We’ve been a family-run business for the past 40 years, Gavin (Dynes, husband) has fore fronted the business for the past 10 years,” she outlined.

“We’ve 15 full time employees who are all masters in their own trades and many regular competent subcontractors who come on board when required.  Gavin’s father John is still heavily involved in the business and is always at hand to share his years of expertise and knowledge.”

As a family firm, John Dynes & Son Builders Ltd’s success to date has been achieved through the expertise of its team, trustworthy relationships built with clients and the excellent customer service and client support that the company provides.

The past forty has seen the business delivering projects all throughout Northern Ireland, with a particular emphasis on South & East Belfast, Hollywood and North Down Regions.

Over those years, a strong bond has been developed with many clients and a reputation for excellent work along with it.

“We can provide a service from concept to completion,” stated Alanna.

“On most occasions, people usually come forward to us after having already appointed their own architect and they’ve got their project through to planning approval stage.

“However, you can find that there’s times when people need a bit of direction from the forefront, so we can always assist.”

Business is vibrant for the company and we have been delighted to have handed over some spectacular homes lately.

Alanna was good enough to share the details on some of those projects and others which John Dynes & Son Builders Ltd is currently immersed in.

“Downshire Road (The Belfast Renovation Project) was a very exciting project for us,” said the company director. “It was unique with its specialised polished concrete finishes, angles and layouts incorporated to allow penetrating light flood the family living space.  These clients had their own clear thoughts and vision as to what they wanted to achieve. Being able to deliver their desired home gave us great satisfaction.”

She continued: “We have several other exciting projects on-going. One in particular; a new build situated just outside Groomsport.  This new home will take advantage of its stunning panoramic views and access to its own private beach. A modern family home which meets the everyday living needs of a young family.  When a client says thank you for giving us our dream home, it makes all our hard work and efforts worthwhile.

“We have just completed another bespoke build which was handed over in time for Christmas on the outskirts of Belfast. We were delighted to be appointed as Contractor.  A family home where outdoor living was very much a key point in the project. Living space is becoming just as important in new builds as indoor living.  Both clients worked from home.  The house was very cleverly laid out to ensure workspace did not infringe on their everyday living and family space.

“This project made use of lots of different materials, textures and finishes which all married together beautifully giving a spectacular Scandinavian high-end finish.”

John Dynes & Son is proud to have delivered its own site of housing on the outskirt of Newtownards.

“This was a first for the company, it was a great challenge and achievement for all of our team. Our standard remained consistently high throughout the construction of this development.  Delivering  highly functionable and comfortable family homes.”

All of that considered, the burning question is what has been the secret behind the success of this family-run construction firm to date?

How has a small start-up grown into a thriving venture which holds an excellent reputation amongst its clientele?

For Alanna, it of course comes down to a combination of factors above all else it’s about providing consistently high standard of work, listening to clients and making their dreams become a reality.

Over the coming months and into next year, Alanna hopes that John Dynes & Son Builders Ltd can carry on in its busy trend and continue to grow the company’s brand.

“We want to continue doing what we’re good at, maintaining our high standards and providing clients with their dream homes,” the director concluded.
