The EDPAC name is synonymous with quality, reliability and flexibility in a world where data processing and electrical technologies are applied in critical applications. The past 12 months has seen a period of expansion and growth and Commercial Director David Bourke tells Building Ireland that there is more to come.
Friday, April 5th last was a landmark today in EDPAC International’s distinguished 51-year history as An Tanaiste Simon Coveney TD officially opened the company’s newly extended manufacturing plant in Carrigaline, Co Cork.
Speaking on the day, Mr Coveney spoke in glowing terms of how EDPAC has led the way in their chosen field of expertise…
“EDPAC International exemplifies all that makes Irish companies so successful around the globe; a high quality solution, innovative in design and execution combined with ambitious leadership and outstanding customer service to create a truly world class product.”
He concluded by wishing all the EDPAC team continued success.
The EDPAC name has been associated with computer room air conditioning since 1968, having originally been an abbreviation for Electronic Data Processing Air Conditioner
EDPAC’s operations in Ireland service the markets of Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, and the Far East. Having pioneered the original concepts, their name is synonymous with quality and reliability in a world where processing and electrical technologies are applied in critical applications.
The company has extended this expertise to cover precision environmental control, data-hall pressurisation, HTM compliant air conditioning systems for the healthcare industry, cinema air management and general air conditioning.
Their product portfolio encompasses Air Handling, Close Control, Data Hall Free Cooling, Heat Recovery, Rooftops, Field Equipment Rooms and Custom Products which are engineered and manufactured by their highly skilled and experienced team at state-of-the-art facilities in Cork.
They apply innovative thinking to current and proven technologies in a manner that reduces risk, meets exacting energy expectations and is engineered to meet individual site and client requirements.
In recent years EDPAC have expanded their operations to create EDPAC GMBH to service the German and middle Europe market and EDPAC Site services to carry out site works in Ireland and service and maintenance contracts across Europe.
According to the company’s Commercial Director David Bourke, the ambitious company has further expansion plans in the pipeline.
“We employ approximately 100 people at the moment, having hired an additional 15 people in the last three months, and we intend to recruit an extra 50 employees over the next two years. Those jobs will be design engineers, refrigeration technicians, plumbers, electricians as well as quality engineers and logistics personnel.
“We consider the experience, expertise and skills of our employees to be critically important to the overall smooth running of the company.”
The ever burgeoning company’s portfolio of successfully completed high profile projects includes installations at Doha Airport, Qatar’s Al Wakra Stadium, Hong Kong’s Metro, Bolivia’s Itaipu Dam, Copenhagen’s City Link Metro, the BBC in the UK, most hospitals in Ireland and Pairc Ui Chaoimh in the company’s home county.
Currently EDPAC is on site with a significant number of the largest and most high-profile International datacentre and colocation providers, implementing large scale custom engineered and manufactured cooling solutions to their buildings.
These solutions typically incorporate direct or indirect ‘Air to Air’ or ‘Air to Water’ technologies, with some other sites still utilising the tried and tested formula of High efficiency Chiller systems with CRAH units or the latest engineered solutions in refrigeration technology now delivering PUE’s of 1.1 or less depending on the application.
In recent years they have diversified into carrying out large scale Legacy datacentre CRAC unit and AHU upgrades and have retrofitted modern components including EC Fans, VSD Compressors, Valve, full machine switchgear and Control upgrades giving their clients up to 90% reduction in CRAC unit running costs.
“Our R&D department is working on new products all the time,” David outlined. “The nature of this business is that what we build is quite customized around the client’s needs. Every product while tried and tested can be a customised offering to meet our clients unique needs.”
The EDPAC team pride themselves on excellence in engineering, flexibility in applications and understanding their clients needs reacting in a responsive and responsible manner.
As a consequence, their products and services are very much in demand at this point in time.
“The future outlook is very positive. We currently have a busy order book for Germany, Sweden and Denmark in particular for 2020. The order book is also busy for Ireland the UK which would be our priority markets,” David concluded.
