We travelled to Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan and caught up with founder / proprietor Mark Quigley to find out more about this thoroughly-professional and highly-skilled business.
In the space of 13 years, ACB has earned a reputation throughout the industry for providing excellent, high-performing, cost-effective envelope waterproofing solutions with a strong emphasis on professionalism and quality. MD Mark Quigley boasts decades of experience of this critical specialist area and has used this to propel his company to the very forefront of the specialist market it serves.
Reflecting on the genesis of the business, which he established in 2003 and navigated capably through the choppy waters of a harsh economic downturn to claim a strong position in the industry today, Mark notes: “My background is that I worked for a company in Dublin that imported specialist roofing materials, where I was involved in the design and technical end of things. My position with this company gave me great exposure and appreciation for the complexities involved in the External waterproofing industry.”
The company was established with a clear objectives to “do what you do do well” with core values of integrity and leadership aligned with passion to succeed. Incorporated in June 2013 working from a Co. Meath base in Navan and later relocated to Co. Cavan. During these years the business has grown and evolved organically and strategically to serve the demands and requirements of an expanding customer base.
“In the beginning, we were heavily involved in flat roofing – bituminous felt and PVC membrane roofing – which would have been the core of our market for the first three or four years. We soon developed a footprint in the zinc and copper work solutions and invested heavily in machinery to service this sector. From here we expanded into the metal roofing and wall cladding with a gradual and significant progression into the installation of specialist Rainscreen applications. All of this leaving ACB in a strong position to offer a more complete external envelope solution.
“Backed by our in house technical team which currently includes AutoCAD and REVIT – BIM capabilities our Draughting and design side of the business has grown from strength to strength. ACB are currently very strongly positioned having BIM level 2 certification to offer a design service that is fundamental to today’s large scale external building envelope project delivery.”
Ongoing projects at the time of writing included:
– Liffey Valley Shopping – including the provision of the entire external envelope of the building onto a steel frame, comprising an Alucobond Rainscreen system, Kingspan architectural wall panels and bituminous roofing.

Which is most important – price or quality? “Today, we pride ourselves on providing high-quality products, workmanship, design and project management,” explains Mark. “Quality comes first but we acutely aware of the commercial environment we trade within. Over the past 13 years we have been received numerous workmanship awards most recently IMA Specialist contractor of the year award 2015.
It would be fair to suggest that ACB has been a remarkable success story. “We’re very happy with where the business is,” Mark confirms. “We’ve experienced growth year on year, even through the recession. It has taken endless hours to get here – morning, noon and night. That’s the level of service we feel our clients deserve and we are committed to providing.”
Mark has invested heavily in Health & Safety, which is a key consideration for the progression of the business.
“Our commitment to Health and safety is somewhat reflected in our most recent 2015 NISO award. The safety of our staff is an integral part of the operation with a process of continual improvement at the core. We constantly train and upskill our team which is reinforced by our CIRI membership. We have a very strong workforce both office based and onsite and we constantly work towards ensuring health and safety awareness is at the forefront of our minds.
“Without our employees we are nothing. From our office-based staff to the lads out on site, the work is specialist and everything has to be thought out, with meticulous attention to detail in everything they do.”
This meticulous, dedicated approach has brought ACB a long way in the external building envelope solutions sectors in a relatively short period of time. With the highest standards sure to be insisted upon going forward, this outstanding operation will thrive for many more years, and decades, to come.
Steady gainful employment is generated for 27 people at present but this can soar to 65-70 during peak times.
“We invite our clients and business partners to our office base at Ballyjamesduff Co. Cavan with great enthusiasm where we will introduce our team and demonstrate our commitment to the external building envelope solutions delivery which we are so passionate about.”
