19 Feb , 2026

Founded in May 2021, G. Potter Electrical has quickly established itself as a leading electrical contractor in the South-East with expertise in the domestic, industrial, commercial, educational and agricultural sectors.

Based in Blackwater, Co. Wexford and fronted by Gavin Potter, the company has hit the ground running with a growing list of successfully completed projects. G. Potter Electrical is a Safe Electric-registered contractor employing a high-calibre team who complete every job in a safe, professional, friendly and timely manner.

The company is also certified to carry out EV Charger installations, Emergency Lighting and PAT Testing, and has earned an enviable reputation for customer service through a strong work ethic and attention-to-detail which results in repeat business and recommendations from scores of satisfied clients. Superior workmanship, value-for-money, trust and reliability are other hallmarks of this highly-regarded business which continues to go from strength to strength.

“It’s been a case of ‘so far, so good’,” Gavin says.

“We’ve grown to employ six people, have four vehicles on the road and an expanding client-base across Co. Wexford. We’re very grateful for all the support we have received from our customers and suppliers to date. We pride ourselves on providing a top-class service and a willingness to go the extra mile for our customers. Our business is 50% residential / domestic and 50% commercial / educational / industrial / agricultural. We also specialise in maintenance and are extremely flexible in what we can do.

“I served my time with AHP Electrical and had stints with Stephen Crean Electrical and Thomas Wheelock Electrical after that before working as a subcontractor for Thomas Wheelock. So, I was already out on my own before setting up this company,” the 30-year-old adds.

The Co. Wexford contractor collaborates with local main contractors such as John Gray Ltd, TOC Construction, Next Level Construction & Carpentry, Ardcavan Developments, Ballina Construction, Kelhearne Developments, Corrigan Builders and Richard Kinsella as well as Datapac, Donohue Agri, Alan O’Connor Shower Services, Breen Agri, John Cullen Grain, Teagasc, Scurri, Coláiste Abbáin Secondary School in Adamstown and Pat Corrigan Plumbing to name but a few on various residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural and maintenance projects. Gavin and his team also enjoy an excellent relationship with their suppliers.

Business is booming for G. Potter Electrical who have a packed order book at present.

“We have plenty of work to keep us busy,” Gavin explains.

“We’re currently wiring a two-classroom extension to Ballindaggin National School in Kiltealy. We have maintenance contracts with the likes of Datapac, Donohue Agri, Breen Agri, Teagasc in Enniscorthy, Scurri in Wexford Town and Coláiste Abbáin Secondary School, and provide an electrical callout service for Alan O’Connor Shower Services.

“In terms of residential projects, we’re carrying out the electrical works on two small developments for Kelhearne Developments in Castlebridge and Kilrane, and another for John Gray Ltd in Blackwater. The bigger of the two developments for Kelhearne is Phase 3 of Radharc na Chuain which consists of 10 A2-rated houses within a small estate a short distance from Castlebridge.”

In a new departure, John Gray Ltd is developing its own scheme of new homes in Blackwater, for which G Potter Electrical was awarded the electrical package. An Goirtín Glas is a beautiful residential development of 12 detached energy efficient homes that have been thoughtfully designed, making it the perfect place to call home. The scheme comprises a selection of three- and four-bedroom spacious ‘A’ rated detached bungalow and dormer homes. They feature air-to-water heating systems and triple glazed windows, while some have stonework features.

An Goirtín Glas is conveniently located just a short stroll from Blackwater which was named Ireland’s Best Kept Village in 2023 and offers bars, a café, a supermarket, the local primary school and the GAA pitch, and only a short drive to all of the wonderful amenities that the thriving town of Wexford has to offer. Ballyconnigar Beach is just 2km away, offering a beautiful sandy beach with stunning walks.

“Our largest commercial projects at the moment are a three-storey unit in Drinagh for Derek Kent of Ardcavan Developments and an office fitout and commercial lighting works for John Cullen Grain’s new pellet feed mill in Ballymurn. We also have lots of smaller live projects,” the young managing director continues.

Furthermore, Gavin works closely with Colm Dooley of Elite Security. As a PSA-registered provider of intruder alarms, CCTV, and access control, Elite Security is one of Wexford’s leading security installers, supplying, installing and maintaining CCTV, intruder alarms, access control systems, fire alarms and data networking throughout the South-East.

Gavin is full of praise for his small, but dedicated crew which is made up of qualified and apprentice electricians. “Our people are our greatest asset,” he stresses.

Gavin is supported in the business by his wife Danielle, who is manager of Pettitt’s SuperValu, St Aidan’s in Wexford Town. They celebrated their wedding on May 16 last and have a three-year-old son named Oran.

Gavin would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients and suppliers for their continued support as well as his team for their hard work, loyalty and expertise.
