Garvey Building Contractors Ltd in Kiltale, Co. Meath is a leading construction firm specialising in new builds, shell and core build, extensions / renovations, project management and commercial / residential block-laying.
Based in the heart of the Royal County and serving Meath, Dublin and Kildare, the company has earned an enviable reputation for delivering quality projects since its inception in 2019. It’s fronted by Paul Garvey, a 38-year-old former champion hurler who prides himself on his exceptional attention to detail and stunning finishes. A bricklayer by trade, Paul’s passion for construction came from spending his school summer holidays on building sites with family and neighbours.
“My father wasn’t a builder, but my late uncle Peter Garvey was and I looked up to him,” Paul explains.
“Another uncle of mine, the late Sid Carty, was a plumber and I spent a few summers with him. His son John is a brick-layer like myself and is someone I continue to work closely with. I also spent a summer with my neighbour Pat Slattery, who had a crane hire business, and that only solidified my interest in construction.
“After leaving school, I served my time with Mick and John Kilbane. I learned a huge amount from them working on both small and big projects. They did a lot of work for Cosgrave Developments on big development sites in Dublin.”
Paul adds: “I played hurling with Kiltale and Meath, so when I got injured in 2011, I decided to follow my cousin John (Carty) out to Canberra in Australia. I stayed over there for eight years before returning home and setting up my own business. I had good contacts from the time I worked for the Kilbane’s and they gave me a lovely brickwork job on a housing project they were doing for Cosgrave Developments in Churchtown to get me started.
“I was very lucky with the support and help I got from so many people after returning from Australia. I did my first shell and core project for Andrew and Suzanne Duff in Tara, and that led to other similar jobs. Thankfully, I haven’t looked back since.”
Along with attention to detail, superior workmanship, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the cornerstones of Garvey Building Contractors. Health & Safety is also paramount. From concept to completion, Paul and his professional team are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your home is designed and built to your specific needs.
Garvey Building Contractors’ one-stop shop approach will ensure that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Co. Meath contractor’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete the most challenging of projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from architects and clients alike.
By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with design teams and using only the very best building products, this fully insured contractor is able to deliver the highest quality construction.
“All of our work is secured through recommendations and word of mouth,” Paul proudly states.
“Our sites are labelled, but it’s word of mouth that gets us the work. We don’t have our name on our vans. I’m ever so grateful for all the recommendations we get.”
Paul is joined by three direct employees and fellow hurlers in Joey Keena, Chris Gorman and Mark Leavy.
“Joey and Chris are from Kilmessan, and Mark is from Dunderry. Chris and Mark are both apprentices who Joey has taken under his wing,” the affable managing director says.
“I hurled with and against Joey, and we also worked together in Australia. He’s a carpenter and I’m from a structural background, so we complement each other in many ways.”
Paul’s small but dedicated team are supported and supplemented by the same tried and trusted subcontractors, including the aforementioned John Carty (blockwork), Robbie Kiernan (blockwork), Charlie Keena (carpentry), Mark O’Brien of Vark Developments (groundworks), Stephen Ryan of SR Electrical, Kieran Goodman (plumbing) and Mick O’Shea of MOS Mechanical (plumbing),
The company’s main suppliers are Trim Hardware, Chadwick’s in Navan and Liffey Providers in Ballymount, while architects / engineers include Michael McKenna of McKenna Architects in Trim, Michael Hetherton Architects in Oldcastle, Paul Taite of Hanley Taite Design Partnership in Virginia, Paul O’Neill Architects in Kells and Noel O’Dwyer of NODE Architects in Dublin. Quantity surveyor Ciaran Flynn is another professional Garvey Building Contractors deal closely with on a regular basis.
Business is flying for the Garvey team who can count an extension to Leinster rugby head coach Leo Cullen’s home among their list of recently completed projects.
“We did a nice 1,100 sq. ft. high-end extension for Leo and Dairine Cullen in Sandymount Strand,” Paul elaborates.
“We’re currently working on a shell and core house project in Navan and have just started another job at Ferran’s Stud between Kilcock and Summerhill. We’re extremely busy.
“Commercial and residential bricklaying is another element of our business. We are subcontracted by other builders to do the bricklaying for them. To this end, we’re working for ADCO Contracting on a new block of apartments in Bow Lane, Dublin 2 and for JJ Duffy Demolition on a new substation at Crumlin Shopping Centre which is being rebuilt by Dunnes Stores.
“It’s all about attention to detail and finishing with us. We have a solid crew who are focused on that. We take great pride in our work and enjoy it. That’s how you get results. We’ve got really good clients and are just trying to finetune everything to ensure they get the best possible service.”
As Garvey Building Contractors continues to go from strength to strength, Paul would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients, suppliers and design teams for their continued support as well as his staff and subcontractors for their dedication, hard work and expertise.
