Goggin Buckley – a name you can trust

29 Aug , 2018

Limerick-based Goggin Buckley Structure Steel fabricate and erect CE certified structural steel and cladding for the Industrial, Commercial, Agricultural and Leisure sectors.

Established by James Goggin and John Buckley, Goggin Buckley has been designing, fabricating, and erecting structural steel work for industrial, agricultural and commercial buildings since 1973.

Their plant is located in Dromcollogher, Co. Limerick and utilises the most sophisticated, computer-aided manufacturing equipment available.

They provide only the highest quality products and solutions for all their customers’ structural steel fabrication needs and can service clients throughout Ireland.

Their highly skilled and dedicated workforce numbers 25 and represents a nice blend of youth and experience. Their employees can tackle any type of project and offer a range of structural steel fabrication from simple building frames to the most demanding and complex of structures.

“More than half of our staff has 30 years plus experience to the company,” revealed the company’s Head Quantity Surveyor John Cussen who himself has 35 years service under his belt.

Originally founded to fabricate and erect agricultural buildings, by the mid 1980’s Goggin Buckley was one of the first steel companies in this field to recognise the change in market trends and began to move towards industrial buildings.

In the past 20 years or so they have dealt almost exclusively with industrial and commercial buildings.

“In a nutshell we encompass everything and anything from a simple one home job up to a complex job of 800 to 900 houses.

“We work across the Industrial, Commercial and Agricultural sectors and do lot of work on behalf of high profile clients such as Volkwagen and Audi and various pharmaceutical and food production companies.

“We’re not just Munster based, we cover the entire country within reason. For example, we do a lot of work for Aldi, we’ve done 60 to 70% of the Aldi stores in the country and some of those were located across the border in the north.”

Goggin Buckley has 45,000 sq.ft of work-space with an extensive automated and semi automated plant and the latest in design and detailing software.

“We’ve another 120,000 sq.ft of open yard space concreted for ease of access,” John added.

With a modern workshop and a state of the art drawing office on site, you can be assured of a prompt and efficient service. For site erection of steel and cladding the company has invested heavily in a modern lifting plant and training to meet the highest safety standards.

“We’re a family owned company and the two principals – James Goggin and John Buckley – take a hands on approach with every customer. If a customer rings there is always someone there to answer the phone.

“We’re no better or no worse than the competition in a lot of ways. We always work to the same principles of good practice, customer service and value for money.”

Goggin Buckley’s Board of Directors are totally committed to the implementation of the company’s Quality Management System and it’s continuous improvement is the basis of all management activity. The system conforms to the equirements of ISO 9002 – 1994 Model for Quality Assurance in Production, Installation and Servicing.

Needless to say, Health & Safety is an integral part of the business and is supported by senior management and employees at all levels of the organisation.

The Health and Safety of all their employees, contractors, visitors and members of the public are of paramount importance to Goggin Buckley.

The company has invested heavily in safety equipment, which not only ensures the safety of their personnel, but also helps them to avoid downtime and maintain workflow.

They also believe that staff training is essential to the company’s continued success and have invested in continuous training and constant performance monitoring which has resulted in an excellent safety record.

On the subject of the current market conditions that Goggin Buckley finds itself trading in, John remarked: “Dublin is busier than the rest of  the country put together. The country at large is not as busy but, at the same time, there are signs of a little bit of growth.

“Our game is based on short term contracts, spanning a couple of weeks. It’s hard to know exactly what is around the corner so I suppose you could say that we’re looking long term with short term answers.

“As regards future expansion, at the minute we’re holding on to see what way the market goes. Having survived the recession we’re not going to get carried away.  At the minute we’re holding off to see what way the market goes. There’s a lot of uncertainty out there following Brexit and Trump’s election in the US.

“These are factors that might effect some multi-nationals so we will wait until the dust settles on those two before deciding what to do. Thankfully, we lost no employees during the recession so will will be looking to take on a few additional employees in busier times, either on full-time or contract basis.”
