Hi-Tec Construction aim high

7 Aug , 2020

Construction is in a new era of building technology where sustainability and energy efficiency are at the forefront. The design and construction of low energy projects should now be a requirement for any person considering building.

An energy efficient house has not only low running costs but you also get to enjoy more comfortable heating levels throughout your dwelling.

The likes of Waterford based company, Hi-Tec Construction provide such services that caters for all of this and the innovative team led by Sean Finnegan ensure that the client will live in a home that they are more than satisfied with.

In October, Hi-Tec Construction made our national airwaves when the company featured on RTE’s Room to Improve.

A prime time Sunday evening slot ensures that a wide audience get to see what the contractor has to offer and no one was left disappointed from what they saw on this particular episode.

Sean admitted to Building Ireland that it was great publicity for the company to receive and added that they were keen to make the most of the opportunity to showcase their talents.

“We were delighted to be awarded the contract for one of Dermot Bannon’s projects here in Tramore which was featured on RTE’s ‘Room to Improve’, which aired on 6th October 2019,” said Sean.

“The fact that the project was here in our home town of Tramore made it even that more special and to be awarded the tender was great.

“It was a project that entailed the refurbishment of a bungalow that was built in the 1920s. Basically, we stripped the house back to just three walls and started from there.

“Working with Dermot was brilliant and all parties were delighted with the end result. It is something that we can be proud to say that we have done.”

Asked was there any added pressure on Sean and his team, given that the television cameras were following them around he said, “After a while, you would forget they were there, but regards the way we approached the work, it was no different than any other job. We give the same commitment to all our work and take great pride in what we do.”

Established in 2010 at the height of a recession, Sean had qualified from WIT, 15 years earlier before making the decision to step out on his own. But the question had to be asked, why do it when a recession was occurring?

“I had been working in an architectural office and I could see that there was a massive slowdown in work as the market began to crash. I felt I had the knowledge, expertise and most importantly the contacts to start out on my own.

“Fortunately, we picked up work and we focused on all types of construction, but our main source of work was and is new builds, extensions and renovations. I’ve found that word of mouth has been our best form of advertisement over the past nine years.

“We have tripled our workload since then without outgrowing ourselves, which is something that we are very conscious of, especially after the last recession.”

The services provided by Hi-Tec Construction include Passive house Construction, Eco Construction, Renewable Energies, General Construction, Extensions, Renovations, New Builds.

Sean has both full time and part time employees, while they use a number of tried and trusted sub-contractors to carry out their work.

“All our work is carried out using the latest technologies available to guarantee your project has the specific Building Energy Rating that you require to maximise on energy efficiency and provide a higher comfort level throughout your dwelling.”

Working with a so-called ‘small business’ has its advantages as Sean will guide the client through every step of the project adding the personal touch to the work, a situation that doesn’t occur with bigger firms.

“We aim to remove the stress, headache and hassle from your project and deliver a high-quality turnkey project built using the latest technologies available.”

Health and Safety plays an important part of their day to day activities and Sean stressed that “Health and Safety is paramount and you not only need all the necessary paperwork, but you also have to ensure the safety of the employees, sub-contractors and anyone else that may be on site.”
