Fox Electrical Contracts, which celebrated 10 years in business last August, is a leading electrical contracting firm specialising in large-scale commercial electrical installations, specifically in the hotel sector.
When it comes to new hotel electrical installations, upgrades, maintenance and refurbishments, no-one does it better than Fox Electrical Contracts. Headquartered in Armagh and with offices just over the border in Monaghan and the Isle of Man, the company has worked with some of the largest hotel chains in Ireland and the UK, including Dalata Hotel Group, Fattal Hotel Group (formerly Jury’s),hilton, accor, Radisson, Fraser Hotel Group, as well as many private and public clients.
“Hotel refurbishments and installations account for about 70% of our business,” founder and managing director Mark Fox explains.
“We’re on the maintenance list for Dalata and Fattal, and have handed over in excess of 90 hotel new and refurbishment projects to date. I worked in hotels from a young age and that experience has stood me in good stead. That understanding of the systems was there before the electrical knowledge. I worked as a lighting technician in Sean Quinn’s hotels, setting up lighting systems for discos and bands, and that led me to doing what I’m doing today.
“I could see a niche in the market and decided to go after it.”
Mark worked as a subcontractor for 10 years before setting up Fox Electrical Contracts in 2014. Supported by a team of over 50 experienced professionals and skilled electricians, the company’s goal is to deliver the highest possible standards and to exceed its clients’ expectations. Fox Electrical Contracts are experts in the field of electrical installation with a proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget to a wide range of clients. It is both NICEIC and Safe Electric approved, which is a prerequisite for electrical contractors operating in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
“We provide installations to all sectors of the electrical trade,” the affable Derrynoose man says.
“We employ a top-class, highly-skilled team of electricians specialising in large-scale commercial projects. While hotels are our ‘bread and butter’, we also provide installations to the healthcare, education and residential sectors. We carried out upgrade works to Ulster University and are undertaking the full design, build and installation package for Graham Construction on two large student accommodation projects in Belfast, one is 773-bed and the other is 724-bed.”
Fox Electrical Contracts carried out the enabling and M&E temporary works to Belfast’s new £340 million public transport hub which opened to passengers last September. One of the contractor’s most high-profile projects yet, Grand Central Station is the largest integrated transport facility on the island of Ireland, delivering a modern, world-class integrated transport hub to enhance local and international connectivity with bus, coach and rail links across Northern Ireland and beyond. The facility also includes cycle and taxi provision which encourages sustainable active travel for a healthier city.
Another interesting project Fox Electrical Contracts completed a few years ago was the Zurich Insurance HQ on the Isle of Man where it now has an office. The scope of works here was the full electrical fit out of a newly-constructed building. Mark and his team have also carried out a number of maintenance upgrades for the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE), Homecare and Tarasis Enterprises.
As far as the hotel side of things are concerned, the Armagh contractor has rarely been busier.
“We’re carrying out a lot of hotel refurbishments, including front of house, bars, bedrooms, restaurants, lobbies and conference rooms, using the latest design and materials to the highest finish,” Mark continues.
“We’ve just handed over the Radisson RED in Galway where JJ Rhatigan was the main contractor. Our current projects include the Clayton Hotel Dublin Airport, Leonardo Hotel in Parnell Street, Dublin, Hilton Garden Inn in Dublin City Centre and the new Sofitel 412-bedroom hotel which is connected to Dublin Airport’s Terminal 2. It’s our first job for Sofitel in Ireland, having previously completed work on three similar projects for them at UK airports.
“We operate from 7am to 7pm seven days a week, providing for all aspects of the trade, including CCTV systems and fire alarm installations and maintenance. In this regard, we work closely with G4S Ireland and Fire Protection Ireland in Virginia, Co. Cavan.”
Fox Electrical Contracts enjoys an excellent working relationship with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and main contractors. Built on a reputation of safety and quality, it boasts an impressive portfolio of iconic and large-scale projects and aspires to set the standards. Furthermore, the company empowers each and every one of its team to deliver 100% on every project it undertakes. From first year apprenticeships up to senior management level, it invests in its people because they invest in the company.
“Our staff are our greatest asset. Our growth and success are down to them.”
As Fox Electrical Contracts continues to go from strength to strength, Mark would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients and suppliers for their unwavering support as well as his team for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
Here’s to the next 10 years!
