HPL Engineering Services Ltd. is Ireland’s fastest-growing electrical contractor

5 Jan , 2026

HPL Engineering Services Ltd. consistently delivers the very best in design, installation, and manpower solutions to industrial, pharmaceutical, commercial, and public-sector clients across Ireland and Europe. Despite being a relatively new company — founded in October 2020 — HPL has rapidly established itself as an industry-leading electrical and engineering contractor, powered by decades of collective experience.

With a skilled, conscientious, and continuously upskilled team, supported by an industry-leading apprenticeship programme, HPL Engineering has built a stellar reputation for customised, efficient, and futureproofed solutions. Working alongside major Tier 1 contractors, the company has contributed to high-profile, prestigious projects both nationwide and across Europe.

In just five years, HPL has experienced exceptional growth, combining strategic planning with organic expansion. The company offers not only deep industry expertise but also the advantage of its own off-site manufacturing facility, enabling lean, efficient delivery and significantly reducing on-site downtime.

“We set up in October 2020,” says Operations Director David Byrne. “Peter Lambe (Director) initially supplied labour to Tier One contractors, but by late 2021 we had begun taking on full contracts ourselves. The third major step was establishing our off-site manufacturing capability. Today, HPL’s three main pillars are manpower, contracting, and off-site manufacturing.”

At the cutting edge of electrical engineering, HPL has worked with Jones Engineering and Mercury Engineering on landmark projects including Intel Fab 34 in Leixlip — a world-class semiconductor facility — as well as the National Children’s Hospital, PA13 Data Centre in Paris, and FRA31 Data Centre in Frankfurt.

Currently, the company’s operations are split evenly between Ireland and mainland Europe, with active projects in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Denmark and Sweden, and plans to expand into Portugal, Belgium and Switzerland.

The move into off-site manufacturing has been transformative. “It made perfect sense,” says David Byrne. “We saw a gap for value engineering and leaner project delivery. By manufacturing off-site, we improve safety, enhance quality, and reduce on-site hours. Combined with our BIM technology and modern, lean approach, we’re aligned with the highest industry standards.”

HPL operates primarily across the data centre, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, and healthcare sectors, handling both new installations and complex retrofits. Depending on workload, the company employs up to 300 personnel annually, including engineers, BIM specialists, construction and project managers, and supervisors.

“We’re very lucky to have great people — they are the heartbeat of HPL,” David Byrne adds. “We might be primarily office based, but it’s the men and women on-site who drive our success.”

A strong apprenticeship and training ethos lies at the company’s core. With over 50 apprentices currently enrolled, HPL invests heavily in developing its future talent. “We have a dedicated apprentice mentor and use our off-site manufacturing facility for hands-on training,” adds David Byrne. “Several apprentices have already progressed to chargehand and foreman positions through hard work and our support.”

Looking ahead, HPL remains grounded in its core values — people, safety, quality, and integrity. “We’re committed to delivering exactly what we promise,” David Byrne concludes. “We learn constantly from our Tier One clients, aligning with their processes and standards to ensure mutual success. As we continue to grow, our focus remains clear: keep learning, keep improving, and keep delivering.”
